Sony HDR-FX1

Anyone has it?
..is it as good as it should be?
WXGA (1280x720) is a scam and will fade away pretty quickly (imho)...
I figured I'd buy 1080i camcorder directly.

1080i sucks.
For the internet you still goto move it to 720P.
Meaning more work since it does not shoot natively Progressive format but interlaced. See funny lines? Thats Interlacing.

why more work? you don't use it for web in original resolution anyways. and when you encode it to WMV or whatever you can simply switch on de-interlacing in the profile.

1080p cams will probably cost an arm and a leg when they're released..one of those would be sweet though :)

which brings me to another question, do american bought TV's work in europe. I couldn't find a single 1080p resolution TV on sale anywhere on finnish websites.
I do have a friend who works in as a tv salesman, I'm sure I could get info from him..but I wont' bother him now.
Sooo.. tell me. Can I buy a cheap 1080p tv from the us (cheap = under 10k), pay 22%vat + 5% customs + get a power converter + pay expensive shipping and still save like 5k off the price ;)
..but will it work?

Adultlexicon 02-04-2006 12:04 PM

Either really. ntsc and pal aren't hdtv formats. 1080p is, and I believe it's 'universal', but it would be kinda nice to know before I go and spend 10k on a tv that I can only use with a gameconsole and dvd-player I also get from the us. :)

i know those are not pal or ntsc but your local tv signal must be supported
or the tv would be usesless as a tv

not my favorite camera. I'd much rather have 24p than HD. It's really gay that this camera can't to both

LadyMischief 02-04-2006 12:25 PM

It's a nice camera, but Sony has a newer one that is smaller, is only 1 ccd, and has comparable quality... Just saw it today.

We use the Z1U and it's an AMAZING camera.

I have owned an FX1 for over a year and its a fantastic bit of kit.
Some on here say go for 24P, but if you are shooting porn you don't want 24P, you want 1080i.

You can pick an FX1 up on ebay for a bargain price now. Start looking.

tony286 02-04-2006 03:49 PM

wait wait wait til second and third gen come out. you will thank me. If your footage is hot and creative you can shoot it on hi 8 and it will sell.

I think he means the
Sony HDR-HC1 with the CMOS chip, however I think I would rather take the big 3CCD HD verison.
