My g/f is getting a computer from her granddaughter who got a new one this year. The one that's being sent to my friend was new back in 97' so I said I hope it's not garbage, she got mad of course but don't you think it's a little old? I mean come on TF had one made for him and it cost about $1,000 and that was in 2003 and that's a little out dated. I don't know she'll just have to be mad I guess.


I have no clue what kind it is but being that old it can't be the best can it?

1997 = 266mhz processor FUCKIN MAX dude. 64 megs of RAM if your lucky. The only use for that? Drunken hammer party in the driveway... give all of your friends a hammer, drink shots - once drunk enough beat it with the hammer and laugh. Rinse, repeat.

A '97 computer would make a great exhibit at the Smithsonian. :winkwink:

Typically I consider my 'puter to be outdated every 6 months from being new.

going to be slow as fuck for sure. max I would say is a 500-733 Mhz. It will get on the internet, that is about it though.

scrape together a couple hundred and buy a new computer, wow.

hardly worth the trouble of sending it, now a days you can get a low-end computer for $300, and that would be 10x faster than the 1997 computer you have...

1997 was the year of the 486 etc.

No way would it be that high. 733 was the shiznit in 2000, i got a computer in July of 2000 for $2500 and it was P3 733

For '97, 266-300mhz TOPS. I'd assume that the computer was bought on a budget then, so my best guess would be Pentium MMX 233 mhz, 32mb ram

I don't think you were out of line. I think maybe she doesn't understand computers and how fast they go out of date.
