Looking for feedback about DreamHost
I found that they are offering the cheapest virtual hosting in the industry. But what about quality? Anyone using them?
Going to signup but would love to get some feedback about them before i start signup process. thanks e-god |
if you depend on control panels, they have the worst, and I see alot of people waiting days for account approval:2 cents:

I would say it depends what you want to do with your site(s).
If you just want to host a blog, they're fine. Pretty nice bandwidth, too. The more tricky part is when you want to run scripts with dreamhost: they use something called server minutes, and you are only entitled to use 60 of 'em (a day? don't actually know...). |
They are very good, I use them since April 2000 with no problem, that's why I use them in my sig. When they have maintenance downtimes, which is very seldom, they usually announce it beforehand. And the control panel is very friendly. :thumbsup

i don't understand why people think the CP sucks, it's really not all that bad.
not as nice as others, but it can do damn near everything. tech response time is about 24 hours. not great, but not horrible either. |
I've had nothing but good experiences with them. I have a virtual account and run scripts on it with no problems. I had a time out issue once and I got them to increase the interval.

why would you want to run scripts on a virtual... |
Been using them for 3 years and have about 30 sites there. Unlimited domains is nice. The virtual is great for starting out with and the one click installs of blogs is instant and a real timesaver. So if your starting out with free sites/blogs and small TGP's the virtual will work just fine. If you get more successful and go into big paysites & huge volume tgps you could move to the dedicated plan.

i use dreamhost for my non-script stuff that takes a lot of bandwidth. It's good cheap hosting, although not the most reliable as things seem to go up and down frequently.

If you have a highly cpu intensive site then virtual hosting isn'a good option, thus dreamhost virtual hosting is not a great option. (Theres some sort of limitation on how cpu intensive a site can be, you are only allocated so much cpu time or something.) Other then that, their control panel is an inhouse design, works great, never had problems with it - has everything I could need. Support wise they are excellent never had to wait more then a few hours for replys on support emails. And best of all they give the most space/bandwidth out of any VH out there.
One of their best features is daily backups :) its not advertised, but check their support wiki for more info. |
thanks, signed up and got approved almost instantly
i wont run any scripts there... Anybody know if they assign unique ip or shared? i see additional ips are pretty expensive and thats not good. |
I run my mgp galleries off it - works fine for me
