I miss the 90's. I just bought Blind Melon's greatest hits

Got me thinking, how terrible is today's rock? I had to revert to buying old music.

Someone told me the other day that Coldplay is considered the great band of the 2000's. That is pretty sad.

I think the past 5 years have been worse than the 80's (except the Culture Club of course).

50's, 60's, 70's and 90's were all great.

Great band. No bad that dude had to OD. I remember listening to them in college all the time.

Older tunes are better anyway. Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, Hendrix, The Doors, The Beatles, The Allman Brothers ... they all rock.

I loved the 80's, but I was a metalhead then so I had lots of cool music to listen to.

But I agree today's musis is so produced and shallow, its not real anymore, all product, no real artists.

Toes across the Floor is one of my alltime fave songs, Blind Melon

Trivia: You know Shannon Hoon, the now deceased BM singer, was in Guns and Roses "Don't Cry" video? He sings on the track too

I"m an 80's fanatic..it's scary lmao :)

80's fan here as well. I mainly like '84 on. Some good stuff in there, and obviously the cheese. But atleast it was not the mass produced, assembly line, cookie cutter shit of today.

One of the biggest annoyances is that with the deregulation of radio, and media companies. You have a handful of the Viacom's, and Clear Channel's dictating music. Based ofcourse on their relationships with labels. So a lot of good stuff today with some original thought can't get out through the regular channels.

Unless they are super big underground.

It's too bad Shannon OD'd, Blind Melon could have done good things for a long time. There is still good music out today, but rarely anything mainstream.

gangbangjoe 02-03-2006 12:30 PM

i love "soup"

especaially the live version rocks

websiex 02-03-2006 12:35 PM

The last 5 years of music have probably been the worst ever in the past 50 years. There is a huge dry spell of any great music.

90s were definitely the last days of good music...

Dirty F 02-03-2006 12:41 PM

I was the biggest Blind Melon fan you'll ever meet. Seriously.

I saw them live several times and collected every piece of music they ever recorded (i think hehe). I used to know every fucking lyric he wrote...kinda scary now i think of it.

I emailed with the bassist a couple of times after Shannon died. Friendy dude. Sent me an autographed copy of the demo cd he recorded with his (back then) new band.

Music when downhill when gangsta rap started to dominate the charts.

DWB 02-03-2006 12:43 PM

the 90s... man those were good times.

of course anyone around in the 60s or 70s would say the same. hehe

BINGO!! That's the problem. There are many great artist out there you just never get to hear them anymore! Only the ones the Big $$$ backers push like mad get exposure, doesn't matter if it's good music.
