what the fuck has happened with small fw drives?

a couple of years ago, i could get a 60 gb fw 800 drive no problem. i'm now looking for a 120 gb (or more), super small that does fw 800. can't find anything. jesus, my video ipod has 60 gigs, and is smaller than a deck of cards. can some one point me to a super small hd (that can do fw 800) that is larger than 100 gb?

cheers :)

By small do you mean 2.5"? I remember reading something about 100Gb being very close to the physical size limitations of current recording technology for 2.5" drives... they can't pack much more in and still have a reliable drive. I could be wrong. :)

FWIW my PC supplier only goes up to 100Gb in 2.5" currently - same as about 10 months ago when I purchased one...

I actually do use my ipod as an easily transportable hard drive because I couldn't find much out there that's small and compact either.

seagate has a 160GB 2.5" hdd, if you find a case that does the fw800, you might be able to slip that HD in

quiet, your spot on about the lack of diminutive FW800 offerings these days... your best bet would probably be to hit up eBay for a used/refurbished Lacie 'Big Disk', either in the size you'd like or the cheapest you can find and just swap whatever size drive you'd like into the chassis...

also, you could hold out for just a bit longer for this...

lacie is taking pre-orders right now, smallest size available is 80GB's, and FW800 is standard, check out Lacie's website in the mobile section..
