Video Production and Editing
I've been lurking around here for a few months, reading the conversations to try and gain information.
One thing that I haven't seen a lot on is the production and editing of videos. I assume that most of the folks on here either make their own or buy from established sources. I've been shooting video for several years now in a broadcast environment, with daily turn stories. I love shooting video and doing my best to make it look as good as possible...making the chickensh1t look like chicken salad. I'm looking at breaking into freelancing in all areas, corporate video, commercials, even adult video. My goal is to have either an SDX-900 or a Sony 450 DVcam. Good glass. I already have a great lighting and audio package and know how to sweeten each to get great results. Editing setup is likely to be a FCP suite. Should have decks to accept DVC-Pro50/25, DVCam, DV, MiniDV, Beta SP, etc. That being said, I can also output on those formats, compress to MPEG/WMV/QT, etc or burn dvd's. My services would include shooting content for producers/site owners, editing content that either I or the producer/site owner shot, and outputting the final product. I'm a solid shooter, editor, lighter, audio guy, etc. I know I can put out a product that exceeds expectations. I subscribe to the No BS style of business. I would expect reasonable fees, not screwing over producers/site owners, but also not getting screwed over myself. After all, everyone has costs and has to make a living. The only other thing I might be able to move into is trying to find new talent. I'm midway between Wichita, Tulsa, KC, Springfield, and Fayetteville/Fort Smith. I think there are likely a lot of girls here who have never thought about the business, let alone having the opportunity presented to them. I think it's an untapped resource. I'm looking for those with experience in the business who would be able to tell me where my video services would fit in, and the relative chance of success I could expect. Thanks in advance for your consideration |
Nice to see you aboard!

From experience, you'd need to post some examples of your work, otherwise you're going to have a hard time getting paid for your first gigs. Most people want to go with a more established editor as myself, or a well established shooter such as Max Candy.

Claire from essog uses FCP too. I think you will do well with that level of software/hardware quality.

Any samples of your work?

I'm working on getting some pieces inputted and placed online this weekend. Most of what I have will be news stuff, as it's the majority of what I shoot. I think it will prove that I can shoot, edit, and light.
