How often can you train your abs?
I know most of your muscles need a few days of rest after a hard workout but you can train your abs more often right?
Don't quote me on this, but I thought it was one of the few muscle groups you could do every day.
*shrug* |
Yup, daily
Abs are the same as any other muscle. You should be treating them the same. Use weight if needed to get the same effect.
Once every few years.
You could hit them daily depending on how hard it was. Certain muscles like abs/calves/forearms can get hit more frequently. They get more use as stabilizers than other groups and usually recover more quickly.
Using weight isn't bad but don't go too heavy unless you're looking to thicken them up. |
i train them every day, unless of course they're sore. which doesnt happen very often. any other muscle i wait at least 3 days between working them out.
abs=daily
I got at least a six pack, much like Halcyon, except mine is covered by my winter "Hibernation" weight.
Good, thanks.
Six pack, what a bunch of light weights. I got a keg!!
yeah you can train them daily
I generally do some situps and pushups daily, on top of my weight routines.
Abs are definitely daily -- remember when you're on the exertion mode of the rep to try and pull your navel in towards your spine so that you get the most shape out of the 6 pack.
Some sets daily but not much
depends on what you're training them to do.

Is it working out? |
I tried to do crunches at least three times a week. As expected, I end up doing that once in a blue moon.

Good question !
Cos heaps of people fuck this up....
I take it you are talking about your six pack, as most blokes do.... the following advice is spot on... paterson3713 - Abs are the same as any other muscle. You should be treating them the same. Use weight if needed to get the same effect. Kimmykim - remember when you're on the exertion mode of the rep to try and pull your navel in towards your spine so that you get the most shape out of the 6 pack. paterson is spot on - train with the same intensity and days off that you would say your biceps kimmy is also spot on about sucking in your belly button (using the Transverse Abdominus) - this also takes your External and Internal Obliques (they help twist the torso side to side - ie twists with a medicine ball) out of the exercise, concentrating effort on your six pack (Rectus Abdominis - and yes it is only one muscle not six), and also helps protect your lower back on say situps (very important - sit ups can be murder on your lower back) Get nice abs Remember, you still wont see any six pack if you are a fat bastard....so diet also becomes part of the routine.... good luck.... :winkwink: btw - i hate working abs and hamstrings..... |
