COX Subscribers - Made some more tweeks...

Hi!

We have made additional changes to the routing between COX Cable and GFY tonight. Trying to speed things up more.

If you could, please post your traceroutes and your opinion on page load performance.

Thanks.

GFYdr001 01-31-2006 08:57 PM

Please make sure that if you have a problem you post:
  • Your geographic location (city/state)
  • Traceroute to www.gfy.com
  • IP address (so that we can perform reverse traceroute and report to ISP)
Thank you!

Ok.. the simple fact that no one is posting here from COX concerns me. :(

X37375787 01-31-2006 11:26 PM

It does seem faster to me, but I'm on the other side of the world. Could my connection be utilizing Cox at some part of the way?

This has been an ongoing issue since early January, and it all traces back to the DNS servers with Cox. The last I checked their support page they have known that this is an issue that is affecting Cox Communication users across the country since January 1st, and the only response given was "that their technicians are working to resolve the problem, but no estimated timeframe has been determined". From what I've heard it's not just GFY, but a number of major sites as well.

I've been working on the issue, looking at every conceivable possibility on the GFY side. Going through every single detail on programming code, configuration, server setup, etc. Big Ray from Jupiter Hosting where GFY resides has also bent over backwards, and around the clock, to do everything he can at the data center, along with his full staff.

Bottom line is this, a LOT of people working around the clock, and going WAY above the normal call of duty with GFY and Jupiter Hosting to figure out solutions to problems that aren't even ours.

All the while and Cox isn't doing a damn thing, even though their customers are paying their salaries for crap internet service.

Go figure. :Oh crap

GFY and Jupiter Hosting will continue to do what we can in the meantime. :)

GotGauge 02-01-2006 02:12 AM

Cox even blocks port 25, makes us use their mail servers, THEN scrubs the emails. If I put www.teenkelly.com in the email, COX servers Trash it. Same with Other big websites...

But I can get to GFY now...

why don't you just suggest that gfy users change their dns servers to something more stable?

i have used 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 for almost a year now without any internet down time whatsoever

quietstorm 02-01-2006 02:46 AM

hmm... funny i found this thread..randomly stumbled onto GFY, and seen just what i could be lookin for

if it means anything, every major website works for me, except www.myspace.com
very strange...

and yes, i have COX

anyone else have this problem?

A lot of people probably don't want to do changes on their end, but yes, those Level3 DNS servers are pretty damned fast and stable. We'll continue to do things we can on our end to work around the problems in the mean time.

Perhaps we should bitch-slap Cox with a nice huge invoice, since they aren't doing their jobs yet we try do the work of trying for them. :helpme

dude, comcast has some pretty fucking shitty DNS servers too....they go down constantly

I tell everyone constantly to update their dns settings, someone posted a kickass list a week or so ago on here, but 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 have been the ones that kick major ass for me and NEVER go down

BINGO!!! MySpace is one of the other sites besides GFY that seems to be getting SELECTIVELY censored by Cox. Not just a coincidence, and part of a growing pattern to keep subscriber's from getting what they are paying for. There are other sites too. Where do you want to be blocked from Cox next? :Oh crap

quietstorm 02-01-2006 03:03 AM

sorry jace, it won't happen again
but i've been reading through the forums here for about a year or so..
its entertainin'/interesting. . anyway..thanks i guess

Please do that. I pay for a business account and it pisses me off that thier service is so shitty. Not really any other reliable ISP around here to choose from though :disgust

I think for now I'm changing my dns servers

it is a good idea anyway, something stable never hurt anyone....and using their dns servers isn't a illegal or not allowed thing, so all is dandy :)

Yep. Dat dey do.

It appears to me that they are blocking non-adult, also. For example, Doonesbury and ESPN pages from x.go.com. Could it be other sites they are loading ads from that are the ones being blocked?

What other sites are they blocking?
