Electric shavers - are they as good as manual ones?

Ive never used an electric shaver.. but im considering buying one
can you get as good a shave with a decent electric shaver compared to a manual one?
id love to save me 5 mins every morning when im in a rush to get to class by using an electric one

what do you think? can you recommend a particular electric shaver?

dbavaria 01-31-2006 07:14 PM

From what I haev heard you have to "train" your skin to get good results. This means using them for a couple months then you start to get the good results.

Fah King 01-31-2006 07:15 PM

Tried it pissed the sht out of me.

uvort 01-31-2006 07:15 PM

Personally I think they are better then normal shavers.

Thurbs 01-31-2006 07:16 PM

ive never had much luck with electric razors, but if its true that u have to train your skin, then thats why, because everyone I used was like 3 uses and id go back to a regular razor.

Wilbo 01-31-2006 08:21 PM

You train your skin to be less sensitive to the razor. It hurts less with every use. I've used an electric razor all my life, but my beard isn't very thick. I've only lathered up and used a manual razor 3 times in my life. There was bloodshed :Oh crap

swedguy 01-31-2006 08:25 PM

Do like me, fuck shaving and just trim it every once in a while :)

Pornwolf 01-31-2006 09:47 PM

That's all I have used for the last 13 years. I think my skin is trained.

Spunky 01-31-2006 09:48 PM

The really expensive ones are good, like the 300 dollar self cleaning ones

With the price of razors, this will pay for itself in no time ... think I'll look into it.

paterson3713 01-31-2006 10:02 PM

I use an electric now after using a blade all my life. It took a couple weeks to get used to it, but I love it now. The only difference I've noticed is that I have to shave more often, but with the electric it only takes like 2min to do a quick job so it's cool.

This is the one I have: http://www.shop.com/op/aprod-p219168...ver?sourceid=3

That's what I do. I do not like electric razors, they don't seem to cut nearly as close as a mach3 or similar. I do have an electric trimmer so I just trim the beard but never shave it all off. So much easier because I hate shaving and my facial hair doesn't grow very fast.

HomoErectus 02-01-2006 01:57 PM

ive been using the Gilette Mach razors for many years and i really enjoy the close shave i get, i tend to shave my face hair against the grain which is what gives me the close shave...

So if i was to buy a really nice electric shaver i can get as close a shave as i can with a hand razor?

HomoErectus 02-01-2006 01:58 PM

BTW: The Mach razors do awesome for shaving of the balls... =)

Hue G. Pness 02-01-2006 02:03 PM

I have a really thick beard and the hairs are very tough. Electric razors never worked for me even after months of use. I found they missed or would not cut a lot of areas, especially along the neck area. I always had to use a manual razor to clean up what was missed by the electric, so I said fuck it and only use manual razors now.

JFK 02-01-2006 02:06 PM

I never really used an electric, tried it once or twice, never liked it. Its razors for me including a staight razor I used for a while :winkwink:

Sosa 02-01-2006 02:09 PM

I like mine. Cost around $100 or so. I still use a hand razor to get up close though.

ArkansasDave 02-01-2006 02:10 PM

Ive always have had the latest Norelco electric razors for years (still do) and have also used my buddies fancy-shmancy other electric razors but nothing gives me the same results as a good wet shave using a Gillette Mach series razor.
However, electric razors are very convenient for traveling or for a quickie if your in a rush or if you just want to tidy up.:2 cents:

Same here. A couple swipes down first, but I finish it off against the grain. It's the only way I can get it totally smooth.

IWantU_Jeff 02-01-2006 02:35 PM

manual shave = THE BEST. Hot water to warm up. Some shaving gell. I shave with the grain first & then against..wicked close shave!
I got an electric one & they say you need to use it a few weeks first to get used to it.. never did, never liked... manual is the best way to go!!

OMG Jim 02-01-2006 02:39 PM

I've been using the Norelco Triple Header most of my adult life and it does take about 2 to 4 weeks to get your skin used to it but after that you'll love it.

The heads float along the curves of the face real well and this model cost about $75 U.S. I use it everyday in the car on the way to work!:thumbsup

Check it out.. http://www.shop.com/op/~Norelco_7865...-prod-26413511

ajrocks 02-01-2006 05:27 PM

electric are shit, slow make your face burn. Fuck them

Scott McD 02-01-2006 06:08 PM

They are ok as long as there isn't much hair there, so to save you time some mornings, it should be ok.

But i always end up letting it grow too long, and so have to resort back to manual...

BlackCrayon 02-01-2006 06:35 PM

i couldn't get used to em, tho i never really tried. it hurt more than the other ones and i thought the idea of having to get used to it was stupid. i don't have time for that. shaving normally hurts pretty bad for me if i do it daily anyways, just once a week is good enough for me.

reynold 02-02-2006 04:12 AM

Same here, I haven't tried them. I've been thinking of acquiring one. But now I've changed my mind. I'll stick with the traditional one.

I second that, I have delicate skin and rough beard so they dont really work well for me.

Myst 02-02-2006 06:40 PM

damn i thought they would kick ass..

chodadog 02-02-2006 07:09 PM

I've bought 2. I think my skin might just bee too sensitive for them. Those things carve me up.

Myst 02-04-2006 11:41 PM

2006 and were still shaving manually

Matt_WildCash 02-05-2006 01:55 AM

Bought the best Braun self cleaning razer. I tried it and it took freaking twice as long the first time to shave, it made my skin red as hell, left big patches of hair I couldn't even get too it was complete shit.

I tried it a couple more times and same results. Give me a razer sharp march 3 anyday, those new vibrating march 3's are kickass too. I should know I have to shave entire head every 2 days and those vibrating ones really work wonders.

Mr. Blue 02-05-2006 02:01 AM

I either grow a beard or use a straight razor to shave (best shave you'll ever get)

SGS 02-05-2006 03:22 AM

Back in the day of Austin Powers when a clean shave (like good teeth) was not so important everyone used them. These days unless you have just peach fuzz or bum fluff electric they are just for those who are too lazy to get up out of their computer chair for grooming.

gangbangjoe 02-05-2006 03:23 AM

i use one and i love it because if save a lot of time.

ok it's not as precise as the manual one but close.

you should see my facial expression when shaving :1orglaugh

like a monkey on lsd

You don't have time to shave?

Lord Nelson 02-05-2006 04:01 AM

real men shave with razorz.

everestcash 02-05-2006 06:11 AM

never used a manual one, so can't compare, but never complained about electric ones, so i guess it's a matter of habit

woj 02-05-2006 07:00 AM

I've never used a manual one, seems like too much work... if you get a decent one and the blades are sharp the results are as good as manual one in my opinion...

Lee 02-05-2006 09:34 AM

Ive never been able to get a close enough shave with an electric and for some stupid reason I must have purchased about 5 or 6 convinced they would be better. At least now I know Im destined to stay with a normal razor for the rest of my natural.

OTerror 02-05-2006 09:46 AM

I have never tried electric ..manual works for me

tristan_D 02-05-2006 10:14 PM

I only use those manual shavers. i find them easier to control.
