Finally got a Sirius Signal

I had to run 75 feet of cable to a window that actually has a Northern View. The signal is excellent and now I can listen to Howard while I work.

LOL, same here. My surround system is in the hidden cabinet in the middle of the house, so I had to have the antenna ran through the wall, then out on my roof. Was a pain in the ass, but worth it.

We are about to launch a entire segment every week on the Stern Channel with Bubba the Love Sponge, so I had to make sure that I had the ability to hear it when it airs.

Nice, that will be hot. I'll make sure to listen in.

Mr. Skin's got a nice spot with Howard now.

I understand Bubba will be broadcasting from Tampa as soon as his studio is ready. Listening to Bubba makes it feel like his national show is a local show.

same here! I had to put it up on the roof to get a good signal. Finally!! :)

EroticySteve 01-31-2006 09:33 AM

In my car it works flawless pretty much everywhere except for when you're crossing the causeways from Tampa to Clearwater.

Indoors though, it took a lot of effort to get a consistently strong signal.

lesbodojo 01-31-2006 09:41 AM

I get a signal at home, no problem...but it's another story at work. I'll probably resort to running cable, too.

EroticySteve 01-31-2006 09:50 AM

So Howard did say that they are going to webcast his entire show. So I kinda feel like I ran the antenna extension for nothing.

Then again I thought it was worth it cause the Radio is much better than a webfeed. The web feed doesn't have all of the Sirius channels.

Been talking to some people, been thinking about getting it. How is it (other than Stern ;p)

EroticySteve 01-31-2006 09:58 AM

Jeff, it's great. I've had Sirius for a long time now. Howard coming over was a great bonus. The programming kills XM and their lineup is fresh.

All of the music channels are commercial free. The talk has limited commercials, including Howard which has 6 minutes of commercials an hour, much less than what it used to be and a worthwhile cost of doing business in my opinion.

The programing is excellent. I'm into rock/hard rock/metal and I can listen to it for HOURS without getting bored with lame songs. XM really only has The Boneyard (which isn't that great) and Squiz, whereas Sirius has Hair Nation (EXCELLENT EXCELLENT channel), Hard Attack, Octane, Buzzsaw, and The Vault.

Spot on. Top notch description of the rock stations.

The same can be said for other Genres too.

I'm a big fan of Country and they have stations that run the gamut.

In the car it's on the roof and it's magnetic. As long as it's in the line of sight of the sky it works without issue.

Never had a car problem except when the car is in the garage, or in an urban area without sufficient ground repeaters.

So I know they also have portable radios as well and I assume that they do not work indoors then unless the radio is outside or hooked to an antenna that is on the roof of the house or something?

Sirius has a unit called the S50.

Not sure exactly how it works but it does have storage on it so that you can record and replay broadcasts.

75 feets ? outch ...

The system is not to point yet it seems. I heard XM is much much better as far a signal goes

It has to do with the way their satellites fly over the US.

If i had the corner office i could have used next to no antenna cable.

I'd rather deal with a little bit of trouble to get the signal than to use XM

Slick 01-31-2006 11:06 AM

XM actually has a signal repeater that you can put in a window that's out of the way, then it'll send the signal to a base where you hook your reciever up to and it's golden. I've been waiting for Sirius to come out with something like this.

As far as the S50 goes, I've done a lot of research on this and the only thing bad about it is that you need to hook it to it's base to listen to anything live, so you can't just take the radio out like an XM MyFi and get a signal.

The S50 is great because you can store 50 hours of saved programing like a pile of Stern shows, hours of your favorite channel, or even use it as an Ipod. It also works like a TiVo where you can tell it to record at a certain time.

Back to the base part on the S50. When you buy it, it's best to buy the $99 home kit to go with it (which are pretty scarce until the middle/late FEB) unless you go on ebay and spent hundreds of dollars on one. Without the kit, you're forced to leave the unit in your vehicle and have the key turned in order to save any programing. With the home kit, you can either line it into a stereo or computer and also use the TiVo'ish features to save Howard every morning.

One other thing that people complain about is the fact that the S50 DOESN'T EMIT AN FM SIGNAL, so if you want it to play through your stereo, you have to have it connected.

Fetish 01-31-2006 11:57 AM

I think I will stick to my Ipod for awhile. This seems like too much trouble.
