Just got back from the Dentist

It wasn't painful at all. I didn't even feel the novacaine injection.

I'm having my silver amalagms replaced with composites. It looks a hundred times better.

If you've been putting off going to the dentist, don't. It's not bad at all

Screaming 01-30-2006 01:02 PM

Im due for a cleaning myself.

Raven 01-30-2006 01:03 PM

I want veneers.

I have to have nitrous oxide just to sit in the chair. That's how phobic I am.

I found a dentist who will do that...better to have a calm Raven, than a psychotic one.

If you are reffering to fillings, I had the same thing done last week. Funny thing is the first shot didn't do anything at all, so they gave me 2 more - well lets just say it took 6 hrs for all of that to wear off later.

Shaft_1971 01-30-2006 01:15 PM

My best friends daughter had her 2 front teeth knocked out on Saturday. She was playing BLIND TAG, ran into a pole and knocked 'em both out. Said thing is she's only 7 yrs old and these are her adult teeth :(

She's definitely not going to be liking the Dentist anytime soon.

Yep the old silver fillings are going to be gone soon. The new ones are great.

This is the second good dentist I've had in a row. I should have done these replacements sooner.

I knocked my two front teeth out when I was 11 or 12. Not a fun time.

Very expensive. But today they can do amazing things with dental implants.

Other than the money, Dentists today are great. I enjoy going.

I need to go and get a cleaning as well. been a little over 6 months.

Yea my dentist told me noone even uses the silver ones anymore, the new composite/white ones should be way better and last longer too :thumbsup

bopha 01-30-2006 01:29 PM

I'm having mine replaced also. I have Invisaligns and I've been going for procedures (various) every six weeks since 04. Fortunately my dentist is awesome. I don't numb up, so they have to numb in the nerves. The new composites are stellar.

If you've ever had Root Planing done, though.. it's the worst thing I could imagine. OMFG. I asked the people in the office including my dentist if they've ever had it done and they all said NO, no WAY!!!

I'll be done with my stuff in May, with a Hollywood smile.

How has Invisalign been working out for you, any problems during the whole process? Been thinking about getting that.

Peaches 01-30-2006 01:38 PM

I went a few months ago for the first time in years. Now I'm in the process of getting: 6 crowns (all on molars so you can't even see my pretty new teeth :( ), 2 fillings, a bond on a chipped tooth and a night guard so I stop grinding my teeth. $7K and if you look at my teeth, you can't see a bit of difference!!

EroticySteve 01-30-2006 01:41 PM

Wow Peaches that's a lot of work.

I feel for you.

Raven 01-30-2006 01:46 PM

Ok. What's Invisalign?

wdsguy...why are veneers bitches? And, what's this about having to be the right candidate?

I just want white teeth. I'm psychically damaged because I had high fevers as a kid...and now they've got the technology...finally...so that I can have white teeth? And, now I have to be a proper candidate?

No i was reffering to the Dentists being picky about who they will give laughing gas to for dental work.

Invisalign are clear plastic molds that gradually shift your teeth much like braces would. you wear them over your teeth. Many orthodontic corrections can be made using them. Nice alternative to braces, but I'd still go to an Orthodontist for an evaluation since this is his expertise.

As far as a candidate I think he was referring to Nitrous Oxide. I don't think they give it arbitrarily.

Veneers are interesting. Using ceramic or resin overlays they grind down the outside of your tooth and replace that surface with a veneer.

Very expensive and some just don't look right afterwards.

Mrs. Wig has had veneers and caps and said the caps are much, much better than the veneers.

You ARE right about that. I found one who understood my anxiety....because I told him the same thing I said here. A calm Raven is ever so much more cooperative than a raving lunatic, which is what I would become..or worse, I would just cry and get up and leave.

The only thing they said was that my insurance wouldn't cover nitrous and I said I care not.

Really? Can you ask her why? My appointment isn't until the end of February, after I get back from Europe..so I have some time to think about it.

She said they look better and last longer. I know I've had a front tooth capped for 18+ years and it's still fine, but I don't think veneers last anywhere near that long :(

If a cap is anything like a crown, I'd recommend against crowning your whole mouth.

To do a crown they must take away a large amount of your tooth. It's a fairly agressive process to fix what a less invasive veneer could fix.

Also check into ceramic vs. resin. There is a difference in quality and longevity.

Raven 01-30-2006 02:21 PM

My back teeth are capped...and yeah, they do grind down quite a bit, which is why veneers are recommended, according to what I've read...for front teeth.....

To me that wouldn't even be an option to lose that much tooth, veneer would be my choice if crowns were the other option

WME 01-30-2006 04:45 PM

I had my dental check up two days ago. I was told my teeth are fine and that I just I have to maintain "cleaning"

reynold 01-30-2006 10:17 PM

I need to see the dentist as soon as possible. It's been ages since my last visit. My pasta's are already damaged.

By the way, how sexy is your dentist?! :1orglaugh

Raven,

I fight the same Battle with this very specific anxiety :winkwink:
For years i used to avoid the dentist, but no more, and it's mainly thanks to Nitrous Oxide, and a cool dentist.

Best of luck to you :thumbsup

lelahosting 01-31-2006 10:21 AM

My dentist is a woman but she's about my mom's age so I didn't pay much mind.

My old dentist was in her early 30's and very, very good looking. The first time I'd been to the Dentist where the Dentist was better looking than the hygienists.
