I Just Smoked a Joint with Bill Gibbons
 

Tonight, I went out with this chick to get some Mexican at Compares in Hollywood -- make a long story short?I wound up smoking a joint with Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top and a friend of his.

Billy is a musician?s musician and one of the sickest guitar players ever. A lot of people don?t know this but Hendrix, when asked who the next up-and-coming guitar player was, named Billy Gibbons as that guy just before he died.

You can?t get much bigger than that.

One thing about ZZTop is the number of great albums they did prior to "Eliminator" (which was really their sell-out album) -- Deguello and Tres Hombres (Waitin´ For The Bus / Jesus Just Left Chicago,
Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers and Master Of Sparks ) are two of my favorite albums ever.

My uncle has "shared" many a time with Billy as well as the rest of ZZ Top.

My uncle played drums for Jay Boy Adams during the late 70's - early 80's he was good friends with ZZ Top , they opened for them a number of times.

He always told me how cool they were, never got a chance to meet them. :(

I thin the last time my uncle played with Jay Boy was in the late 90's.

Ah but then, my uncle's granddaughter is also the great grand daughter of June Carter Cash

Very cool... I assume he was as much of a down to earth guy as I imagine the group to be....

I would love to smoke one with him while listening to pearl necklace or cheap sunglasses .. hell any of ZZTops song!

Their first album (I think), "Tejas" is one of my favs. Read a guitar mag interview with him, pretty cool guy. They interviewed him while drinking mescal and watching a bullfight in Mexico.

weren't they somehow involved in the start of mtv's history somehow too? i wanna say that they were one of the first groups to have music videos on mtv.

i remember watching the one where they had the guitars on these devices to make em spin around and shit. that was awesome.
