The World Internet Infrastructure
I was argueing with my friend and he things that the internet can be turned off.
There is no fucking way, way to many central offices, hubs, and data centers with multiple redundant backup transport fiber. Even if the power was shut off than theres battery back up and desiel power. What you all think? |
Not really possible to shut it down, but you sure can hurt it....
you can feel it every time one of these big guys in this grid blow a router: www.internetpulse.com |
offcourse you can do it. destroy some stuff in strategic places and the internet will be turned into 1000s of small netwerks unable to communicate with/reach each other...
|
even the terrorists communicate via the web, so they'd hardly have a reason to destroy it

In 100 years it will be a real AI controlled sentient being.
I know that sounds 'out there' but that's the direction things are going. |

www.internetpulse.com this site is sick, is there one for global |
if you hit the root nameservers , the servers that control the TLD's you can bring the internet somewhat to halt , unless the ppl know the ip of the site they want to get to
|
If you can snag that little remote control from Kurt Russell, you might be able to, but otherwise I don't think its possible. You can take chunks out of it, but thats it.

Totally shutdown? don't think so...
Having a big part of it made unavailable? yep... |
I really don't think it's possible. Maybe only a major damage but no totally shutting it down
|
Can be split into smaller 'nets', but not completely shut down.
|
interesting questions i must say...
