Soft-Drink Tax To Fight Child Obesity ?

Wow, check out this article - http://www.msnbc.com/news/737593.asp?pne=msn

Some people are just fucking stupid, trying to blame pop for child obesity. Sure, it isn't the healthiest thing in the world for kids, but it's up to the parents to moderate it for their kids.

TDF 04-15-2002 08:36 AM

what about adult obesity?? i cant give up my pepsi dammit!!

Kat - Fast 04-15-2002 08:59 AM

I am calling for a law to be passed to make it prosecutable to eat or drink in public for all fat people.
It sickens me to watch fat people waddle down the street devouring a Mars bar they just bought from the shop - like they can't even wait til they get home to gorge themselves - and then they throw the empty packet on the street. What sort of image are they going to portray to their children?

In fact - just make it a blanket ban on all people eating in the street. Ban fat people from eating anyfuckinwhere apart from their homes.

I think people who have kids should pay MORE taxes, not less.

Why the fuck do we give these people tax breaks anyway? They're the ones using the schools and the hospitals. They're the ones polluting the world with their ugly little devilspawn.

Why should I, as a single male bachelor who knows how to use a rubber, be forced to subsidize people who are selfish enough to want to infect the world with their children?

Wizzo 04-15-2002 09:46 AM

I figured someone would jump on it, since being a Fat ass surpassed smoking as the #1 killer in the US last year.

I hope you aren't serious. If so, someone should smack the fuck out of your parents.

A broken condom moment...

Citing poor eating habits is a pathetic excuse, most lean people eat exactly the same as obese people. But it is easy to say "Look at that disgusting, inhuman freak eating a Big Mac! He/she should be punished" all the while you are eating the same thing.

Obesity is really a vicious disease because you can't stop eating altogether.

But they deserve it, right? Fat people have no feelings (and if they do they certainly have no right to them). It's easier for people to discriminate against the obese if they think they chose to be overweight.

Discriminating against the obese, verbally abusing them and making jokes at their expence is only marginally different then discriminating because of race.

As an adult, I've weighed 218 pounds at my leanest and over four hundred pounds at my heaviest and I've experienced life on both sides of the battle of the bulge. It's not a good life, living fat.

My obesity is not caused by overeating. It took me years to figure out what my body can tolerate before it begins to store fat. But with the help of medical experts I found a formula that works for me. I can only consume half of the daily recommended amount of carbohydrates and I need to cut that to less than a third in order to lose weight. My body burns fat just fine but can't handle red meat. Suffice it to say that the food pyramid is not my friend.

I could go on but what I'm trying to say is that I spent a lot of time and thousands of dollars learning to control my weight. Should we punish the people that don't have the means to do the same?

Kimmykim 04-15-2002 12:00 PM

watsonian,

Seeing 4 overweight people scarfing down supersized fries, giant soft drinks, and two whoppers each is not a pleasant sight, nor would seeing a skinny person do it be pleasant either.

The bottom line to losing weight is more calories used than consumed, no matter what the physical or psychological reasons behind the obesity.

The term going on a diet is an oxymoron, since for anyone with the propensity to gain alot of weight it should be called a total change in diet. One that has to be a lifetime change.

Excercise is just as important as diet, and most of the people I know that either are, or have been, overweight, simply don't do it.

Someone who is very large didn't get there over night and they aren't going to lose it over night either. It is possible to lose 7-10 pounds a month by eating a healthy and balanced diet, and doing some very moderate excercise.

It's way too easy for people to give up, either because they don't see drastic results immediately or because they don't grasp the fact that you can't just lose weight, you have to change your entire lifestyle to be fit and healthy.

NoName NoSlogan 04-15-2002 12:42 PM

Obesity IS caused by diet. Why do you think Americans are so fucking fat? Four fast food restraunts on every corner! Other countries eating habbits are so much better. Why do you think America is No1 when it comes to childhood obesiety, diabeties, and heart disease. No other developed nation comes close to american statistics.

-it's my metabolism
-it's my thyroid
-it's genetic

hahaha bullshit in most cases.

-Processed Sugars
-Saturated Fats
- All you can eat Buffets!

theWatsonian 04-15-2002 12:59 PM

It can't be genetic! Oh no! Then you couldn't discriminate with a clear conscience.

Don't click these links if you don't believe in genetics.

I really wish people would quit pointing fingers at everyone else in the world.
My kid is fat so its Coca-Cola's fault. My dad died of lung cancer from smoking 5 packs a day so its the tobacco company's fault. My kids are exposed to too much sex and violence so its the TV producer's/video game maker's fault.
Let's not even talk about who's fault it is that someone's kids can find porn on the internet :feels-hot

Nobody wants to take responsibility for their own actions or for their childrens upbringing. I guess its just easier to blame it on someone else than to actually be involved in your kids day to day lives.

It's a fact
sugar=carbs makes you fat

eating fatty food does not make you fat

fat free foods make you fat because they are loaded with sugar because they need to ad it to make it taste good after removing the fat!

we eat way to many carbs in the form of sugar, dextrose, corn syrup, etc.... and processed wheat flour and corn flour, bread, doritos etc.

when are bodies first evolved they did not have all these foods

we ate meat and foraged a few grains and fruits and vegetables.

we didnt have JuicyJuice and coke that is all sugar.

You can eat all the bacon and eggs you want and meat cheeze, leafy green vegetables and will not get fat.

dont eat anything with sugar or hi in carbs and no caffiene!!!! if you want to lose weight and not starve yourself

Some people say that eating like that is not a normal diet. I say eating all that sugar is not a normal diet.

I am 40 pounds lighter from changing what I eat and feel a hell of alot better! i wouldnt say i was fat but i am 6' 250 lbs then, now i am 210 lbs

And yes, fat people die sooner than thin people, its a fact.

:2 cents:
