I grew up in Troy Michigan 25 miles north of Detroit.

Detroit is a fucking shit hole. I'm not talking the burbs, but the city itself is a dump. I can see why people are reserved about having a SuperBowl there. What is there to attract people aside from the game? Nothing but a big pile of run down shit. How SB XL ended up there is beyond me. Bad weather, a shitty run down city and nothing to do but watch the game. If anything, having SB XL there is going to boost the crime rate for a week or so and not benifit the city. When was the last time someone said they were going on vacation and you asked where and they said Detroit? Probably never unless thier vacation was for a family visit.

As far a Detroit, I hate to say it, but it's too bad hurricanes don't hit there.

I been to detroit once and I don't wish to go again... it IS a fucking shithole.

I might be wrong, but that was hella boring... nothing to see there.

Greektown is a nice place to visit if you like to drink. Some nice little bars and crap down there. I can't imagine what you would do in Detroit though if you weren't planning on going to the casino to get drunk, unless you are going to the auto show once a year.

I can just imagine what the rest of the city is like, if Greektown is supposed to be one of the better areas.

I've heard a lot of people slag off Detroit, I'm sure some have had bad experiences there but then anywhere can be bad. But then I don't know as I've only ever been to the airport there.

Have any of you been to detroit in the last year? if not I recomend you come take a look, they redid every building in downtown just for SB, ya detroit is still a shitty place but they changed a lot for SB XL they even have a ice skating rink in the middle of greek town now.

I will be in town for a visit. I will remember to bring my military grade police issue kevlar vest and riot gear. :winkwink:

some parts of detroit are really shitty, but i think that goes for any neighborhood. theres a lot of things to do downtown if you know where to go. theres also downtown areas with lots of things to do for other cities in the suburbs within 10 minutes of detroit.

Our crime rate is from people being killed by things they have done, either dealing or owing people money, your not gonna get mugged down there

ive lived in detroit all my life and not only have i not been mugged, but ive never even seen anyone get mugged.

Detroit isn't as bad as it was in the late 80's. If you think it's bad now you should have seen it during the crack era. Scary.

Stewie and I were both born and raised in Detroit. It's a dump and we all know it. However, I do know that they have cleaned up a lot of shit for the SB. Plus, like mentioned above... there are some fun places to hang out... Greek Town is a blast!

It's like every major city. New York has a shit hole area(s) so does Chicago.

Downtown Detroit is nice. 200K condos on Woodward. Bars, casinos etc. Of course if you venture off it turns to shit, but the same thing can be said about any major city.

The areas that are nice are a great time. The areas that have tnothing to do are shit.

Driven through it before and (sadly) it wasn't the nicest looking place I'd seen. I can't say it's a bad place because I've never visited. All I've ever heard about it though was negative which is probably not very fair to the community as a whole. If they have an opportunity to clean things up and make it a better place then GO DETROIT! :thumbsup

i've been to detroit a bunch of times, the last time i was there was when my flight got canceled on my way back to Boston. It was on a friday so our entire plane went out drinking. It was so much fun! It has alot of shitty places but we had a blast! 1/2 of us ended up back at the hotel bar/karaoke hole by the airport, talk about talent!! kids were ripping it up on the karaoke box like they were pros!

I'd love to go back to detroit just for the fun.
