Not Women's Work

My boyfriend is out of town until tomorrow night so today I decided to surprise him and put up some new blinds myself. Big mistake.

I needed an 1/8th inch bit to mount the bracket but it was missing from the set, so I assumed the 5/32nds bit would be just about the same thing. Another big mistake. I drilled 4 holes into the window molding only to realize that the screw was too small to thread in there.

I went to Lowe's and bought slightly bigger screws. I brought the bracket to make sure they fit - they did. I got back home and started screwing them in - and then I realized that although they threaded correctly, the base wouldn't fit all the way in.

So I decided to use a really small bit and make new holes and then just jam in the screws with the screw gun. 5 screws in and the bit breaks.

I went back to Lowe's and bought the 1/8th inch bit like I should have originally. After about 2 hours of frustration, I got both blinds up within 30 minutes.

There's my long boring story of the day. I'd just like to say a big fuck you to venetian blinds. :321GFY

I hate doing stuff like that too. I bought some blinds for a window in the garage 2 years ago..they are still waiting for me to put them up =(

Its the thought that counts..... unless you jacked up his window, then its all your fault. :)

I wasn't going to settle for the thought, I got it done... but one thing's for sure: he's doing the closet door.

I can do any job a man can. I consider myself pretty damn high maintenance but I managed to assemble some furniture all by myself. It took a few damn hours, but I figured out, and the manual/instructions sucked, it was all stick figures crap, nothing written, but I figured out.

It was confusing as hell, cause some of the screws didnt work with my screw driver, and I know there are different types of screw drivers like a flat one and a round one. After hours and hours I somehow figured you were supposed to use the metal stick in there to stick in the screw and twist it around instead of using a screw driver... WTF

Anyways, my bf was too lazy to assemble some furniture I got, he was already complaininga bout carrying it, he didn't even want to carry it, so I was stuck doing it myself.

And I did a DAMN FINE job too! I feel so smart and proud of myself! :winkwink:

I kinda like assembling stuff, its like a test to see if you can follow directions and if you have good puzzle solving skills, especially with ikea stuff that comes with half assed instructions, their stick figures!

I've got to say that it does feel rewarding to do it. I typically assemble furniture, but the blinds were my first real adventure with power tools. I'm usually the one bringing the beer and cleaning up while my boyfriend does everything mechanical - simply because he's very capable in that regard. The blinds were frustrating, but I felt really good once I was done.
