Want to start a freehost.

Hi, i wanna start a freehost.

And i need some information. Where should i host a server? How much outlay should i be expecting to get this thing off the ground. Ongoing costs, etc. Any additional info would be great too.

Cheers

if you don't know the answers in your questions, it is better not to start a free host. trust me ;)

Soul Rebel summed it up - don't.

5 simple reasons NOT to start a freehost

1. the concept is not unique, you have to compete with a lot of people who are likely to have more money/experience/reputation etc.

2. Some big freehosts still struggle to make profit. Even if it seems they've got everything in the right place.

3. People have lost faith in freehosts (especially starting ones) because there have been so many scams......

4. The bankruptcy or failure rate of freehosts is pretty high. why?
Most starting freehosts underestimate the costs and workload such an operation requires

5. Finnally maybe even the most important reason: I you have put tons of time and money into your own freehost and have managed to make some profit, it would have been WAY more profitable to spend the money and time on another project...!!!!

hope I talked you outta this ;)

yeah, you have no chance to make a successful and profitable free hosting service..

sasush 04-14-2002 07:51 AM

first,

You need to spend $10,000 on it.

Then everything will go :thumbsup

Gee, just what the world needs...Another free host.

I tried this once....I lasted a week. Not a good idea....
NEVER again.

I spent allot more than $10,000 starting up, it was a pain in the ass. Depending on how you want your server setup. Depending if your going to own all your equipment. Depending on how much your going to pay for bandwidth. It all adds up.

oscer 04-14-2002 10:51 AM

Just dont start a freehost theres no profit or a very slim profit margin

Tipsy 04-14-2002 11:47 AM

Just hope you haven't overestimated those click-thru ratios. There was a guy not that long ago expecting to get 1% :1orglaugh

Well we host quite a few freehosts, and they all are very profitable currently. I would say the key to freehosts, is good cheap bandwidth, good uptime, anti-warez protection, and good software.

We throw in our full web based and ftp based software for free, and have the best prices on bandwidth. Hit me up on AIM or ICQ.
