What do you think of North Carolina?

I am thinking of moving out of Orlando, fl and I have a couple places on my radar. Anyone here from NC? If so what area are you from? How do you like it/dislike it?

viki 01-26-2006 08:22 AM

I'm not from there, but I've been to the Smokey Mountains/Blue Ridge area quite a few times. It's beautiful and very mellow.

I have lived all over Florida and in Charlotte. I love both FL and NC. Charlotte is a great city :thumbsup

I have a house in NC, and love it. Just sold a house in Myrtle Beach, and loved it too. NC is a good move.

Kimmykim 01-26-2006 08:53 AM

If you like golf, skiing, beaches, and normal people with some Southern courtesy, then you'd probably like it.

Of course most of it comes with hurricanes, ice storms, hellacious humidity in the summer and bugs the size that can carry off little babies.

Needless to say, I can golf, go to the beach and ski here in Cali, so I don't live in NC any more ;)

You couldn't have described North Carolina any better Kimmy! I grew up there and the humidity is horrible and the bugs are even worse. That's why I moved to Colorado where it's dry and I have yet to see a bug! :thumbsup

NC is a great place and a little off and AC and you will be fine:)

sfera 01-26-2006 09:16 AM

Charlotte Representing

Screaming 01-26-2006 10:21 AM

Some parts of charlotte are scary.

Murder about every night.. If not a few of them.
The outskirts of charlotte are very nice.

I lived south in the Arboretum Area...VERY nice...and "safe"

Charlotte is a huge, sprawling city. Bad shit happens in the inner city of any major city.

andr 01-26-2006 10:32 AM

I'm not livin in North Carolina, never been here, so I can't rate it.

that can be said about certain areas of any big city

just the way of the times I guess, and it kind of sucks

czarina 01-26-2006 01:28 PM

I grew up in Florida and spent tons of time in NC. Great place. You may want to check local laws about porn before a move.

Yes it is humid there, and there are bugs, and hurricanes.
But the "Left" coast where I now live is dry all the time, and not enough is green. There are bugs here as well, and while there are no hurricanes that you can plan a party a week in advance for, there are earthquakes that pop up any time, and there are also the santa anna winds that like to drop street signs on cars.

So there is good and bad on both. Just try them out and see what you like.

well I wanted to update this thread... I wanted to ask more about raleigh, because we are going to be building a house in Garner, NC. Its a little south of raleigh, like 5-10 min..

Anyway know about this area?

Hunter_ST 03-09-2006 01:04 PM

I love NC. Like to move there some day.

Pilforgod 03-09-2006 01:20 PM

I'm actually moving to Chapel Hill in a month myself. It's not far from Raleigh and the area as a whole is great. Tons to do because of all the universities, so you got nice restaurants, sporting events etc. I love CH just because it's more of a northern mentality but with that touch of southern =)

gornyhuy 03-09-2006 01:21 PM

Go live in Chapel Hill and get the beautiful UNC boooty every night.

I went to UNC-Chapel Hill and lived in Raleigh for 3 years. Garner is a GREAT area...VERY reasonable housing costs and only a short drive into Raleigh for nightlife, restaurants, etc. Garner is safe and you can have lots of space in comparison to living in Raleigh.:thumbsup

Thanks for that reassurement... I was really hoping it was a big choice because this is a big change for me. I have lived in florida my whole life so this will be a nice change of culture (maybe...)

yeah the house we are getting is like 2950 sq ft, base price is 197k, so its huge in comparison to what orlando real estate is right now...

also everyone I talk to says there is so much construction on expanding so from what I gathering, in 2-5 years it will have a huge difference in terms of commerce. So in 10 years it will probably be dirty and rude people and I will want to move again (cynical?)

TurboAngel 03-09-2006 01:29 PM

I love it here in NC.

:thumbsup

Quagmire 03-09-2006 01:31 PM

Its a fantastic place to pass through on the way to Florida. :D

Herb Kornfield 03-09-2006 01:40 PM

I spend may and september there on the coast.

Corolla Light, NC.

Fucking love it, but the bugs will carry you away .....

my mom and a webmaster friend of mine both live in Raleigh and LOVE IT there, actually me and the bf might be moving there ourselves :thumbsup
goregous weather, nice people, 2 hours from the beach (which is good during hurricane season).

xuron 03-09-2006 02:06 PM

nice. so the only bad thing so far is the humidity and big bugs....

xuron 03-11-2006 12:05 PM

bump....

tony286 03-11-2006 12:07 PM

orlando is a bad place to do porn move somewhere lol

axelcat 03-11-2006 12:08 PM

I have a friend who lives in NC and loves it

sfera 03-11-2006 12:13 PM

i have been to charlotte alot and its a very progressive area and very clean

POWERHOUSE Content 03-11-2006 01:13 PM

Lived 8 years in NC. The humidity is a bitch. Scenery is great. Not a lot to do. Guess it depends on where you are in NC. I lived in Hickory. Small town, lots of furniture and little else.

xuron 03-11-2006 03:25 PM

I am moving to Raleigh, NC....

MrIzzz 03-11-2006 03:31 PM

i spent a week in raleigh 2 years ago and i loved it. i may actually consider that area in a few years asw ell
