They updated the laws in 2003 to include:

"The mercy killing of all beached whales, and those humans who are considered whales"

xclusive 01-25-2006 01:18 AM

It's only illegal if you get caught:)

thebossxxx 01-25-2006 01:24 AM

its illegal if you get caught and don't have 50 Pesos in your pocket tp pay off the policia!

Doctor Dre 01-25-2006 01:45 AM

Nothing is illegal anywhere ... unless you get caught

I doubt there is any country where killing another human beeing is legal, except when the gov does it.

lesbodojo 01-25-2006 09:01 AM

Oh snap. First page sig placement secured.

WarChild 01-25-2006 09:03 AM

If somebody has broken in to your house or is in your car, you can shoot them on site. No questions asked.

Otherwise, have a good bribe and some contacts and you'll probably get away with it. I don't think the Costa Rican Grisham is all that good, so have at it :P

Sleazy I am sorry about my ambush, I will finish it today and try to make the rest of the answers shorter than "movie of the week" scripts.

I deserve to live I think.

fuzebox 01-25-2006 09:35 AM

Well as a foreigner/tourist you may have trouble acquiring a weapon locally, and of course you won't have any luck getting one into the country. Your biggest problem will be that people who are already living here will be armed, so you should choose your victim carefully.

Honez 01-25-2006 09:46 AM

I am bringing a bullet proof vest to the Costa Rica Bash, just in case :winkwink:

TheDoc 01-25-2006 09:48 AM

It isn't illegal to kill yourself.

theloader 01-25-2006 10:01 AM

Can be! :winkwink:

Shooting dumb tourists can be satisfying - but that's illegal.

Shooting people who tresspass on your land can be more legal.... and even more legal is when the assholes have hunt dogs and guns and are shooting monkeys and other critters "just for fun".

Often folks who do that shit are dumb tourists fantasising they are on a big game hunt - then it's legal to shoot them. :thumbsup

Seriously... had these problems a few times and there is no wish to harm folks (they are just mentally retarded) and are given a warning if possible. Then the first thing that disappears are the dogs - either shot or preferably "borrowed" and taken to other locations. If they are still tresspassing, a bullet over the head never failed yet.

I recall from being down there that squatting was a huge problem and if you didn't get trespassers off your land, they could end up legally being able to stay. Gunplay was practically unheard of, though.

Some human rights campaigners would argue that the same statement applies to the Philippines as well.:(

There still is the squatting stuff, but never actually had that problem - yet.

Yea.. folks can be "persuaded" in most instances to move on without violence, but it has been known to have some heavy arms to help in the decision - but seems that's rare.

Last time I had a problem it was some scamming idiots who were apparently "real" surveyors who were travelling around trying to find land they thought they could "just plot" and sell off to unsuspecting tourists :1orglaugh

Four entered our land and cut some chains on gates etc and had started plotting areas (sticking pins in the ground) in potential prime ocean view plots. Our own security spotted em first (tho had no idea of how many etc) and I asked a few neighbors if I could borrow their security for backup and some offered their own bodyguards. They were just scammers, but some were armed - their arms were removed and "lost" and only one got "mouthy" and wanted a "discussion". One large and very polite bodyguard smashed his face in and then they left. The police know of them already and not sure if they are still walking or in prison.

hmm how do you avoid squatting in costa rica?

JFK 01-25-2006 06:21 PM

why, are you coming ?:winkwink:

DWB 01-25-2006 06:29 PM

Cali, Colombia... you can have a person killed for $250 USD.

You can probably get it cheaper if you look around.

Matt Collins 01-25-2006 06:42 PM

I hear that if the hotel ask to see a photo ID, it means there is a contract out on you.

Be very careful when you travel to Costa Rica...

It's not a crime scene Matt - far from it :winkwink:

Costa Rica people overall are very friendly and willing to help - far more than in places like the US or EU. The only other place I've found which supercedes that is St Maartin in the Caribbean.

This ain't the US - They don't ask for "Photo ID's", DNA tests or sperm counts :winkwink:
