Thinking of renting office space

I think its time for me to move out of my home office. For 5 years i've been working at home and even though I do quite well (read sig :1orglaugh ) I have 20% discipline and just do jack shit all day. I could be doing alot better if I actually work like I should. Does anyone have work at an actual office and how does that work for you? what about cost and setup time?

i tried it. i found that i would find some reason to go home 5 times a day. luckily my office was less than 2 miles away. all in all there were plusses and minuses. i really didnt see my productivity go up so i moved back to home office....

If you fuck around at home, you'll fuck around at the office! Supervision and accountability (ie: achieving set goals) are the key to personal discipline.

I too used to work at home and would often end up fucking around most of the day. But now I work part time for M2 Productions and since I come into their office a few days a week and am held accountable for my results, I am now more productive when I work for myself at home.

Yea its all about discipline but whatever help boost that discipline. My plan is to hire a couple of employee to handle various task. I want to hire a programer and an assistance.

Getting an office is a great move. I worked from home for quite a while until I ran out of room. Now we work from a 2000sq ft office and things couldn't be better. :thumbsup It all depends on what you are doing, if you only need a small room, you can usually find them in an out of the way part of town for $150+ a month. Money well spent and also a tax write-off. Start by looking in the paper and then by asking people. Just make sure to find a good person to rent from.

Thanks for the advice, is it really that cheap to rent an office space? How much more does it add to have a small room in the office? Id like to have a separate room away from my employees.

You need to consider whether the productivity increase (if any :winkwink:) will compensate for the rental and the need to purchase or lease equipment, furniture etc.

I've thought about an office but since I have no clients (and thus don't need consistent contact or business hours) I can work at any time. I think I'd have problems getting the motivation to arrive there half the time, plus I can't exactly leave my family when I feel like working at 2am...

god i want an office, keep the wife from nagging me.

Alot more distractions at home for sure. When I'm at the office and have no computers to work on etc I really focus on my websites and get alot more shit done. Overall I think the office would be better but not sure if would be smarter money wise at this point.

I had an office for 2 years. I fucked off at my office just as much as at home, but couldn't bend Belinda over in the middle of the day for a quicky while downtown... so I moved home.
