You know you live in a bilbe thumping, ass-backwards, fundamentalist town when....

You have to drive 60 miles out of town to find a theater that's playing Brokeback Mountain.

Friggin ridiculous.

There's a large theater in this town and 4 more within 20 miles or so and all of them are refusing to show the movie.

Louisiana.
I live in Tangipahoa parish, a place where there is forced prayer at school board meetings.
The ACLU has sued the school board twice and won both times, a federal judge ordered the school board to stop the forced prayer before school board meetings, but they still do it anyways.

What's hilarious though is I can go watch a movie like Dawn of the Dead where people get eaten, War movies where thousands are slaughtered, or a movie about a jigolo who sleeps with dozens of women.

But BOYS KISSING?!?!?!?!?!?!

Straight to hell for that one. :1orglaugh

Miss use of the word conservatives.

How about "bible thumping homophobes for Bush"?

Is that more appropriate?

That would be much more appropriate.

pornguy 01-23-2006 05:53 PM

Not too sure that i want to see that maovie anyway, but that is absurd.

Wiggles 01-23-2006 05:56 PM

well if the majority of the pop of your town is anti gay, usually is in a fundamentalist town, then why would the theatre waste money even bothering to show it.

Ok then, maybe you've heard of this thing.

syn·o·nym n - A word having the same or nearly the same meaning as another word or other words in a language.

So in this case conservative is appropriate also.

There's a difference between what the majority wants, and what the majority of those in power want.
Whilst the folks who get elected and show up at the ballot box are very conservative (and these are the same folks who can put the pressure on local businesses), this is also a college town with lots of young open-minded people who would probably watch a movie like this.

The same trend goes on nationally. The American public is 65% pro choice, yet we keep electing conservatives to congress and the white house who are now trying to set up the supreme court to overturn Roe v. Wade

I used to live in Hammond... not the epicenter of culture and tolerance.

Monique Niccole 01-23-2006 06:50 PM

They're not playing it in my town either. I really want to see it but just haven't had the time to make the drive into Gainesville to do it.
