Anyone know anything about blade servers?
We'll be building some clusters shortly and I'm trying to find out which blade setups are the most cost effective since we pretty much have to stick w/ it while we expand.
Dell, Intel, IBM, Sun... ??? Anyone have anything good or bad to say about these or any others? |
tical, hit me up.. i work for an IT reseller, a sales guy can give you good prices.. mainly on Sun, but we can get Dell too.. you know my AIM

Your best bet is to go with 1u servers and not a blade center unless you dont get charged for extra power in your datacenter. Blade centers use tons of power and usually require 208v which costs more. We use ibm x335 single and dual xeon servers in our clusters and they seem to work best for us. You can daisy chain them toghter for remote management and they use cheaper 110v power. Thats just my experience, blades are just too damn expensive to buy and run. Hit me up if you need help i have experience with dell and ibm blade centers

I'm guessing by blade you mean 1u servers though. An IBM Blade is not a normal 1u server though. Its an over-priced over-powerhungry 1u hotswap system. I'd stick with Dell 1u poweredge servers. |
