Genesis was Genesis when Peter Gabriel was the singer. They became Genesis the pop band when Gabriel left and Phil Collins the ballad singer took over vocals.

Listen to any Genesis album with Peter Gabriel singing and you hear art, not pop. I think Genesis made some great post-Gabriel music, but it just doesn't compare to the inventiveness and artistry they exhibited with Peter Gabriel as the front man.

Loved the album, loved the band (especially the early days), and unfortunately think Phil Collins became the biggest sellout in the history of music.
