Pop-ups - Suck or Fuck - Do they really work?
 

My first post on here was one out frustration because of a really annoying flash pop for webcamcash that stopped me from reading the first 20 posts. As it turns out I could have got rid of the shite by refreshing but I shouldn't have needed to post a new thread to find that out. Because of that crap I will never give them a second thought when looking for sites to promote.

I've been quoted that "pop-ups and adult sites are like pizza and beer", and yes it's a fact that we can't escape them, just like we can't escape radiation. I personally feel they do more damage to our industry than they do good, so what do you think?

The flash ad had a close button at the top..

But i do agree some are too invasive..

I have a problem with flash ads that dont have an easily closeable button.. it makes no sense why they try to have a hidden one.. whenever i see a new flash overlay on a site i frequent i ALWAYS watch it first, i dont panic to find a close button.. but once i have seen it it pisses me off if i cant close it quick..

I think they are on par with spamming, which also works, but is annoying and puts the back up on people who aren't overly interested in our business. Some of these people will then go out of there way to make life harder for us. The discussion is deeper than the title.

it really all depends on the context..

If i have a free video site and put all the videos in one easy format on one page with awesome presentation and run a popup , does that make me better or worse than someone who spreads the same content out over 100 pages stuffed with advertising banners and text links in fashion making it difficult to navigate ( but no popups )

frankly i would rather visit the site with 1 popup and easy access to the content..

popups sucks, and that flash thing in the beginning is annoying as hell! I never click annoying ads

yeah they work, i personally don't click on anything annoying, but newbie surfers do.

At FreeOnes we mostly use th console=No function.

I guess it all depends on how they are used, their miss use has stopped me using them in the past.. but from the feedback its the site thats over using them that get dissed it seems. All very useful.

Yeah? Newbie surfers also get hacked off when their comp crashes because of chained consoles.... I won't name any names but they know who they are...

lol people dont get hacked from consoles crashing their systems .. why would an advertiser purposely crash someones computer.. they cant buy anything at that point..

I think all of the sponsors in your sig have multiple chained consoles on their sites.. as do almost every major sponsor..

I can name several sponsors that don't have CHAINED MULTIPLE CONSOLES that work.

Asfar as spam goes, it only stops when people bring it to others attention.. i certainly wouldnt just "accept" spam.
