..innovative TGP [..finally?]

ok guys. it's spam, kinda.

http://www.kinkerbell.com/index.php
A TGP with thumbnails - automatically.

My script, when you submit ur site, works out the number of thumbs, then takes a random one - which will display wirth your gallery.

Please, post your galleries, and more importantly, push traffic to kinkerbell.com - the more you push traffic, the more sales you'll make :D

please, let me know what you think.

http://www.kinkerbell.com/submit.html if you cant be bothered finsing the link

I like the idea....itīs nice....but I think it needs some work on the
layout.....with large amounts of submissions it will look a little messy....but I like your idea :thumbsup

innovative tgp is an oxymoron.

eroswebmaster 04-12-2002 10:45 AM

damn quantum how many boards are you going to spam with this?

As was pointed on ARS you're gonna get bitch slapped by Disney with the name and the tinkerbell images.

Don't waste your time with that name and those images because you will have to start back over from scratch.

Just a friendly warning :)

Babaganoosh 04-12-2002 10:49 AM

I thought at first you were hotlinking the thumb but you're actually downloading it to your own server which would legally obligate you to buy a license for the content you are serving. Correct me if I'm wrong. That looks like a C&D letter waiting to happen.

quantum-x 04-12-2002 02:11 PM

.. just spamming to these two boards :)

i honestly don't know about the legal standings of this site - i didnt make it with those in mind, and in retrospect, that might have been a little silly.

re: the name and logo, i'm just going to have to dump all the images i spose - i dont have the cash to be fucked over by disney.

re: the thumbnails, it's an interesting problem. giving thought to it, personally, i wouldnt be inclined to worry, because they are small thumbs - i'm not taking their real content, but i'm not sure of the legal obligations.

perhaps its down to the webmaster to decide?

A U.S. Federal Court ruled in February 2002 that thumbnail images are not protectable under U.S. copyright law. Only full sized images are protectable.

Here is the story:

Court Rules 'Thumbnail' Images OK, Full-Sized Copies Not

By Brian Krebs, Newsbytes
WASHINGTON, D.C., U.S.A.,

In an important decision for the application of copyright law on the Internet, a federal appeals court has ruled that while Web sites may legally reproduce and post "thumbnail" versions of copyrighted photographs, displaying full-sized copies of the images violates artists' exclusive right to display their own works.

that depends - most licences have an allowance on their agreemnt of use to allow for banners and advertising modificatons which could be inturperated as a thumbnail of the licenced content leading to the licenced content on a proper url with the thumbnail being on any number of unspecified URLs. But every content suplier company is different so check FIRST and doing it without concent of the gallery maker is just wrong and looking for trouble.

quantum-x 04-12-2002 02:26 PM

Thank you - at least that takes one prospective legal case off my arse :D

GatorB 04-12-2002 02:36 PM

Begs to question "what is a thumbnail?"

If I take a 400 x 600 pic, can I make a 300 x 450 "thumbnail"?

Fletch XXX 04-12-2002 05:47 PM

A reduced image of a graphic or document page, used in order to view multiple images on a screen simultaneously or to download such images more rapidly.

Another question. What if you are a content broker and you only sell thumbnail sized images? Then the thumbnail is your original work, so it should be protected, right?

Only the Supreme Court knows for sure. :)

GatorB 04-12-2002 05:52 PM

I know what a thumbnail is SUPPOSED to be. I'm not a moron. I'm saying that if it's ok to show a thumbnail or "reduced image" well how "reduced" does it have to be? to qualify as a thumbnail?

Uncle Vinny 04-12-2002 06:05 PM

Well whaddya know, another tgp...Outstanding!
:glugglug

chodadog 04-12-2002 09:44 PM

Brace yourself, there are more to come (including mine)

There's more tgp's than fuckin' galleries!

Tedster 04-12-2002 09:46 PM

sounds good!

RaGe 04-13-2002 01:50 AM

That script is pretty cool.. although half of the thumbs on your main page are broken links at the moment, so it looks like it has some flaws.

Anyway, thumbnails are legal as long as the thumbnail is linked to the page containing the full sized legal pictures.. at least thats how I understood it.

Nedder 04-13-2002 01:58 AM

I like it, its different...broken links need to be fixed.

I'm really surprised to hear that law on thumbnails, I thought some TGPs were actually shut down by APIC for hosting thumbs?
