Do you use RSS readers?
I been messing around with RSS lately and was wondering whats the point of having a rss reader. I guess I can see actual surfers using them, even though they aren't that simple to use, but I was wondering if anyone does what i do. I made a simple script that has all rss feeds I like on one page, then i added it as my active desktop so it blends right into my background. I dont even have to open up my browser. Anyone else doing the same??

I think RSS, though such a simple (yet horridly butchered by some sites) format, is still difficult for a regular user to understand. Yes, IE will adopt the little orange button that Firefox uses for sites with RSS feeds, but how many regular users will understand what that little button means?
I can't imagine trying to explain to most people, people who surf a good amount but have no clue about what they're really doing, what RSS is and how it could benefit them. It's fine and all for sharing text between sites, but it's still a while before the regular user is able to utilize it, in my own opinion. Edit: I'm sticking with the "Ninja" dude, and saying I won't use them. I've tested a couple of online ones (firefox extension / google.com/ig/) and, at least for now, I'll never use another one. |
well, back when I tried out RSS, there were mostly a lot of sites posting RSS talking about how great RSS is...maybe it is better now?

I had one made that is online www.beverbal.com , it's not much to look at, but at least you don't have to download anything. It's like hotmail vs. outlook

Bloglines is my main source for "stuff on the net" nowadays - I love not having to check each site separately to see if they've been updated or not.
