Video card question

Ya, I know. I could probably get a better answer on a forum specifically for computer related stuff, but I'm gonna ask here. I'm looking at buying a new video card. Something that will play the new games and also be good for video editing using Avid Xpress pro and doing other stuff with Maya 7 (when I can afford to buy it)

Now, I will be shoppping at http://www.ncix.com. All prices listed are Canadian. Anyway, in the video card section of the site mentioned which video card would you recomend? Nothing over $200 for now. I don't need the BESTvideo card there is, but I do want something that will perform good at least. I'm not willing to spend a small fortune on a video card just yet.

Yngwie 01-20-2006 07:00 AM

or maybe you know an online store in the US that I can buy a very good card for the price limit I set.

crackerboy 01-20-2006 07:01 AM

Well new games does req a bit of power so i would go with a 6600 gt card thats less then 200
now its not the best but it will get the job done or if you go up to about 250 dollars a 6800 gs card

edit
does the card need to be AGP or PCI-E ?

Fah King 01-20-2006 07:02 AM

do you have AGP port or PCI express? For US you could tru www dot tigerdirect dot com

Yngwie 01-20-2006 07:03 AM

any specific name brand you would recommend?

Fah King 01-20-2006 07:04 AM

I heard many good things about leadtek. I know a lot about computers, but I just want to make sure that I get a good video card. With all the stuff coming out when it comes to video cards it can be a tad confusing haha

Fah King 01-20-2006 07:10 AM

All new cards come with DVI but they also come with 2 DVI to VGA converters so you shouldnt have a problem :)

If you go wiht Leadtek, make sure you update your drivers for the card. Use the LEADTEK from their site drivers. A lot of people recommend different things for these cards from support forums. Do NOT use the nvidia, or some of the other support drivers. Each can cause different issues of annoyance. Especially the 6600 gt. I have it. Had problems initially, and most of it was driver related.

Other than that, good card.

:thumbsup

You won't find anything decent for under $200

EdgeXXX 01-20-2006 10:14 AM

Have you looked at Newegg.com?

ATI is the best?

They have HORRIBLE support, drivers are a mess and their software suites are utter complete garbage.
