Common GFY and message board mistakes
I'm sure that this isn't the first thread of it's type but it's the first one this afternoon.
I'm not perfect at spelling or grammar by any means. Yet, I do find some people's writing amusing and wonder how they were able to get through high school. Loser not Looser A lot not alot to and too are two separate words, each with their own usage. you are = you're as in, "You're so right, I didn't see it that way." your = the right way to say something like "You dropped YOUR wallet" |
They'll never learn.
|
i gave up on them
we all speak Webanese or Weblish..lol |

www.engrish.com is great, but they get a bye on our language. I completely excuse their errors, they often just use American text because it looks cool. I'm sure that the reason Japanese and Chinese people are always laughing at white people is mainly because that Chinese character tattoo that you thought said, "Strength" really says, "I'm an ignorant prick" :) |

its... it's.
I thought "it's" was short for "it is" and "its" was actually the posessive. yes, no? |

English isn't my first language and those are some of the mistakes I make. Loser/looser I got that one nailed. a lot took me a while to figure out. to & too still have no clue I chose one on random. Your & you're I know the difference but I still make mistakes :( |

Whereas "to" would be for "I am going to the store" or "I like to make money from porn." |
I see they're, their and there misused alot. :winkwink:
|
no need to stress that its MASTURBATE not MASTERBATE
|
Quote:
They're = They are Their = something belonging to someone as in "Oh no, they forgot THEIR hammock." There = as in "Hey, look over there." To = "I'm going TO the store." Too = "I'm going to the store, you should come along TOO." |

Yes. Correct. "It's" is the contraction. "Its" is the Genitive (possessive). |

GFY is a community of webmasters worldwide, we all make mistakes and
language barriers will certainly not stop them in doing business here if there's person who speak English from a different planet, there could only be one GFY member and everyone would agree to me.. i ain't telling lol :smokin |
Hmm, I was actually not aware of "alot / a lot". Learn something new every day I guess.

More of a safety officer than a cop. Hey I make mistakes too, but for anyone who speaks English as their native language should know these things. It seems most don't. That is all. |
