Are there too many webmaster gatherings aka conventions?
 

I think so... Isnt it getting just a little out of hand? Seems like every other week there is another gathering or convention to go to...

dude I remember when there was like 2 a year....

being a newb my opinion on this doesnt count for much, but every person i talked to in vegas said they think that it is too many, and that they arent as happy with shows as they used to be...

Seems to run in cycles... a few years ago, everyone and their brother wanted to have a show it seems. You could go to one or two a month if you liked and never run out of stuff to do.

The last couple of years it's leveled off and been somewhat reasonable.

I guess we're overdue for the excessive number of shows again for a year or two.

This is a worldwide industry so there definitely needs to be shows in different countries. Is it too much? I don't think people expect that they should attend every show that's put on -- but it's good to be able to choose a few from the bunch. And by not having the same people at every show, it allows for each one to be unique.

I would have to say Yes. It seems like there is a new show being announced every few weeks (and half are in Vegas).

i dont see how its a problem, you only pick the ones you want to go to. if you were forced to go to all of them there could be "too many". but thats not the case.

consider also that different events serve different functions: some are big league extravaganzas that try to be all things to all people. some are more intimiate networking events, others are serious business gatherings and yet others serve only as an excuse to get drunk with your friends...

regional events allow those who might not be able to attend distant gatherings a chance to participate, while specialized events focus on one distinct area or another, such as mobile tech or SEO.

One size does not fit all...

There are quite a few but the good thing is that you can pick and choose which to go to. Like I'm going to Phx forum but skipping Cancun. Being able to select is much better than not having enough in my opinion.
