Gauze stuck to cut... help!

Yesterday I cut myself shaving really bad. My leg slipped and I end up with a 2-3 inch gash. The blood kept coming so after a while, my boyfriend just poured peroxide on it and taped a gauze to it.

Big mistake.

I didn't even consider that with all the blood, the gauze would be stuck to the cut. I've been trying to take this thing off now for about an hour. The clear sticky part of the scab is already forming and it seems to have fused the gauze to my leg. I ran it under hot and cold water, used vaseline, and baby oil. It still hasn't budged.

Right now I'm sitting here with an oily leg and a soaking wet gauze, debating whether or not I should just take the plunge and rip it off.

Any ideas? :helpme

Sit in a tub full of water and let it soak for a bit, then peel it off. It may remove some of the scab but it should not be as bad.

Or just rip it off slowly and then apply an actual piece of bandage over it then apply gauze.

I did the same thing when i cut my knee after my first motorcycle accident. I finally gave up trying to soften it and just ripped it off, next time buy the ones that are stick free or whatever its called, its a different kind that won't stick to the wound.

LOL - I have no suggestions to offer, but if you do break down and rip it off then PLEASE film and post it here. ;-)

There's an idea - I may go for it. Just so I know, do you want to see tears?

I already did the water thing for about 20 minutes with no results. I think ripping it off slowly is the ticket.

The tedious way we used to do it was lifting the gauze and using a wet qtip and slowly rubbing out the area as more was removed. This still hurt like hell though and I would rather have had it pulled off.

Looks like my boyfriend has the camera and I can't wait for him to get home because we're going out right after. Wish me luck!
