Bought my 42" plasma - WHAT KINDA CABLES DO I NEED?

keep in mind i know nothing about this shit.
I have regular rogers digital cable.
Which wires should I buy so that I can view with the best performance?

thanks guys!

BillyParadise 01-17-2006 08:06 PM

Jordan, component will likely be your best bet. Look for something that looks like thick RCA cables.

Or, if it's new and shit-hot, look for an HDMI interface.

Failing that, look for whatever plugs match both the tv and the cable box, receiver, or dvd player.

component best
s-video next (single, round connector with four pins inside)
Composite if you must
COAX last chance. your monitor prob doesn't even have this.

Best of luck

for hd you have to get rgb component video cables, monstor cable makes some good ones

flashfire 01-17-2006 08:07 PM

digital box only has s-video right? Probaby want to use an svideo cable for you cable box (you should get the HD box) buy component cables for your dvd player

TeaseEntertainments2 01-17-2006 08:09 PM

thanks guys.. remember i know very little about this shit...all those words mean nothing to me however I will write it down and bring it into the store when I buy!

ps - this is why I am on the content production/marketing side of the biz and not the tech side! :winkwink:

No No No.

wedouglas 01-17-2006 08:12 PM

Dont buy monster. over priced non sense. their cables are 100% the same as every other cable.

lemme see your plasmas model. give me a link.

You want either hdmi or dvi cables.

mechanicvirus 01-17-2006 08:12 PM

I just got a 50 inch plasma and theres a shitload of cables, especially for HD.

if you just using your normal digital cable box and a dvd player for now get an svideo cable and compnent video cables...dont bother with moster cables

My installer told me not to spend a fortune on wires but not to buy radio shack crap. I bought middle of the road wiring but I doubt you would ever see the difference if I had bought top of the line wiring.

Get a HDMI cable for your digital box(the newest rogers boxes have HDMI) and component wires for your DVD. As far as brand goes, go with Monster. You will also need a high end power bar with TV filter. The 3 should cost you about $400 but you wont beilve the difference it will make.

Enjoy your TV

Ray

wedouglas 01-17-2006 08:22 PM

There is really no top of the line. Most cables are cables.

Quality goes like this

composite (yellow red white)
s video
component (red green blue)
hdmi/dvi

if your set and boxes support dvi and or hdmi, you want to use them. beware though. your tv may not have both hdmi and dvi. very common not to. if your boxes are dvi and your tv is hdmi, outta luck :/

Monster is not worth it. Their cables are the same as anyone else...

huge misconception that monster is the ultimate.

Pipecrew 01-17-2006 08:25 PM

i bought a HDMI cable in stores and it was 150 bucks, i hear you can get them online for like 30 bucks, so i am gonna return it, fuck that..

MattO 01-17-2006 08:28 PM

ask over at www.avsforum.com about monster cables.

they will tel you what im going to say. they are over prices and the quality can be had for a fraction of the price elsewhere.

They are the Bose of cables.

flashfire 01-17-2006 08:33 PM

you guys are crazy...I wouldnt spend that much on cables or power bars, do you guys work at the electronics store?

MattO 01-17-2006 08:34 PM

When spending 4K on a TV I dont think one should try to save a couple hunderd on cables hehe. Heck, even if they improve 1 pixle its worth it. But thats just me :2 cents:

Hahah I bet.

Peter_ANYwebcam 01-17-2006 08:51 PM

If it,s a new TV then the cable types that can be used for it will/should be identified in the owners manual.

exactly 88

sltr 01-17-2006 08:58 PM

Since component video provides the best picture quality among analog connections, it benefits the most from better cables, thus my recommendation for higher quality cables- such as monster.

pr0 01-17-2006 09:25 PM

i got monster cable for all my shit....that overpriced gold plated car audio shit

Juilan 01-17-2006 10:14 PM

nice set. :thumbsup
looks like you need to go with component hookups as there's no HDMI slot on this TV. also, to protect your investment, i'd look into getting a power cleaner like the one Ray posted above. :)

I just bought a projector.. It's the best I have ever bought!
http://www.hell-c.com/xbox.wmv

Xbox connected via a component cable... the DVD player (panny s77)'s connected via a cheap HDMI wire

Projector is the best way to go. Got to make sure you have good lighting conditions though.
