What do you want in a freehost
 

As some of you know, I run TheAdultWire freehost & tgp. I've got a lot of satisfied customers, but I want more.

I am going to be launching a new freehost, and I'd like to know what kind of features you want. Pretend for a moment that nothing is too much to ask for, can you all tell me what features would make you switch to my freehost?

I like http://yourname.pussy.org

I like the small strip type ads, and I dont use freehosts that fly ads for other programs, thats lame.

I think we dont mind links back to the freehost site the way pussy.org does it.

I like to make clean galleries so if the freehost banner fits in, it can look nice...

On the downfall is, Ive had this gallery declined because you have to use .js to do it... so work witrh clean, no banners, and definitely no links to like eraser cash, and no counters

1) Uptime
2) FTP
3) Appropriate sponsors

It sounds simple, but so few do it.

the one bad thing about pussy.org is they dont have real FTP, so add real ftp to your next one if you already do I dont know...

Hey shoplifter.. can you elaborate a bit on "Appropriate Sponors". What would be a bad sponsor for a freehost to use in your opinion? What would be a good one?

Keep in mind that TheAdultWire freehost is my first entry into freehosting. I'm experienced in payed hosting, and I have good uptime, and the server is fast and reliable, but I think my second crack at it will be better from the perspective of the webmasters.

Of course, TheAdultWire Freehosting isn't going anywhere for existing webmasters, but I may cut-off new signups when the new freehost goes up.

There shouldnt be ANY sponsor, put links back to your site. Thats where everyone goes wrong.

Again I urge you to look at http://yourname.pussy.org they dont have links to a sponsor, thats what ruins a freehost.

Theres no links to any sponsor but mine and the freehost, the pussy.org links to their tgp which is what the freehost should be about, not selling something, but freehost owners never get the real picture anyway.

If I ran a freehost I would use it to promote paysites...not the usual dodgy click sponsors that are all banned everywhere.

Uptime is the key...kinghost.com has been down all day and I hear that mottz.com is finished now.

I'm not sure I understand what they're selling. I'd be interested if they end up converting a lot of their webmasters to paid hosting.

best free host out there is "payinghost.com"

no ads at all, real ftp, all file types allowed, no bandwidth limits...

BUT!

the entire freehost is behind a dialer! while it means webmaster gets $$$ for his traffic, it also means you need to host the public area elsewhere...

I was thinking of setting up something like that, but I don't want to stick webmasters with a product that's hard to push. Is anyone having success with dialers these days?

REAL FTP!!!, I hate all the chauncy FTps the other free hosts have.
As far as everything else goes, just obey the rules of the TGPs so that server won't get banned, and leave room for the webmaster to post his own ads.

I am also debating on what sponsors to use on my freehost as well. =/ Had some glitches and trying to fix them as I go. I was also thinking if many people are willing to convert to pay hosting if it was cheap enough.

well, i don't think that dialers "go" or "don't go" these days. it largely depends on the content they are protecting. with good content, you can make a fortune with dialers. with bad content...

a freehost like payinghost.com is good only if you have good content (video files mainly), but you will still need a mainstream freehost for your entry pages!

This is true. In my experience, most freehost users are hosting galleries. Is this a good general rule, or has this been my experience because I setup my freehost with that in mind?

If you can tell me *WHY* a freehost user would want dedicated servers, I can try and incorporate certain particular benefits. I don't think the average freehost user knows how to properly manage a server though. Most of my users experience better performance on my shared server than they do on their own unloaded dedicated servers.

No idea why a typical freehost user would want their own server other than the obvious, who wouldn't?

I don't use freehosts, so asking me what I'd want if money was no object may not be the best idea. :winkwink:

Well, this is more of a brainstorm for me.. Most people would have thought it would be a stupid idea if they suggested that a freehost should PAY THEM, but someone already pointed out a freehost that does this earlier in this thread.. so, whatever crazy ideas you might have, I'd love to hear them.

Number one is - no footer/header at all.

That would grab many people's attention. But it's not affordable, of course. Promising "No footer/header until blah/blah/blah" isn't gonna attract alot of people either. Anyways, that's just my opinion.

Uptime, Real FTP, minimal outgoing links, small text-only header and footer ads is what people want isn't it?

I can't see many freehosts staying in business long only sending traffic back to their root...

btw - I can't even pull up pussy.org on my cable modem and your gallery took 1 minute to load 1/2 the thumbs and eventually I just closed the browser.

Contests are a great idea :^)

I think most webmasters want a freehost that is fast, reliable, has real ftp, and the smallest non-competing ads possible, plus the chance to win some cash/prizes.

also something to keep in mind, is how long the freehost is around... freehosts that has small headers or no headers or non-competing headers, or headers that don't convert - will go out of business FAST. this means if you had archived galleries at thehun, worldsex, al4a etc. - they will be gone and all the effort was in vain... Too many freehosts go out of business w/o prior notice...

anyone knows the list of freehosts which are around from 97-98??? not too many as far as i know! porncity.com is one, sexplanets.com is another and MAYBE a handful of others. not too many more.

getting rid of headers/footers completely, while still allowing true ftp, unlimited file size and type etc. is simply not possible, unless the freehost is protected by payment processing of sorts (like payinghost.com)

i would say that the last thing is to look at what freehosts are accepted by the big TGPs. not too many! easythumbs.com is one, thefree1.com is another and kinghost is yet another (though seem to have gone missing lately???)

If you have no header or footer then where's the traffic coming from? 404? sure i know that. htaccess country redirect? nope don't want that. so if not that well imho there are only a couple of ways to go here that I have seen to be productive for freehost to have a chance to make any money. what are they?
