Does Anybody Really Give a Shit About "Brokeback Mountain"?

I just have no interest in seeing this film, & it just swept a bunch of Golden Globe awards; man the Oscars/Academy Awards are going to be a real snoozefest this year.

JoeMeca 01-16-2006 09:13 PM

seira 01-16-2006 09:14 PM

Bareback Mountain

If you went to the AVN show they did a spiff off it and it was great, they had a guy dress up all girlie, it was great.
But the real Broke Back Mountain is suppose to be good, Everyone that i know who has seen it says you see past the gay storyline.

I like Ang Lee as a director very much and I don't have anything against gay people or a gay love story. But I just have no interest in seeing this film, which also has been greeted with great apathy by most others. No one is talking about this film that is your average joe or average sally. Only two weeks ago, I asked GFY'ers for their Top 5 choices of Movies for 2005. The overwhelming Top 4 were King Kong, Batman Begins, Sin City, and The 40 Year Old Virgin, and a slew of others were 'tied' for fifth. That thread had a great deal of replies and views, and NOT ONE VOTE was cast for "Brokeback Mountain." Not one.

thats cause gfy is mainly a sausagefest and i wouldn't expect any votes for a gay love story movie.

talk about a sausagefest; when I went to "Revenge of the Sith", opening day, on the lower level of the theater, which seated several hundred, I turned to my friend and said, "How many ladies do you see here?" He looked around for a few minutes and then said, "I count 3." :1orglaugh It was actually kind of creepy.

Orgasmics 01-16-2006 09:30 PM

Haven't seen it and won't go out of my way to see it... but I'll watch it if it ends up in my DVD player.

aico 01-16-2006 09:50 PM

I don't give a fuck about actors, movies, celebs in general. they are just entertainment, not the fucking Gods they think they are.

romeoboi 01-16-2006 09:50 PM

ive seen it... its not for everyone, as its more in the independent film genre.

its really sad and sweet, and there is barely any gay sex let alone much kissing. The focus is on their relationship and how it effects their lives. their relationship almost becomes non-romantic in the conventional sense - while you know they are having sex, you dont really see it after the first time and the movie isnt really about that.

Its not a sausagefest and the characters arent what most people think of gay men in the 2000s. If youve never seen it because you think its stupid or don't care, just leave it alone.

not to mention its a well made movie (made mostly by straight people) aside from the gay aspects

directfiesta 01-16-2006 10:02 PM

I forgot for a second I was on an adult BB ... :1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

What a bunch of rednecks here... If you would say the same thing, but referring to jews like for Schindler lists , I imagine the outroar...

I went to see it this weekend with my girlfriend ( BTW, mainly couples in the theatre... ). and it is a very profound story, as well as entertaining and at some times funny.

Sure, a few moments you sorta freeze , but if it was 2 girls it would be not only OK, but fantastic ...

Acting is great, scenery breathtaking ( and I am not in the nature scene thing ), story solid and touching...

Maybe you guys should see it ( go alone if you are ashamed or threaten in your vvirility ) to have a perception of real closeness and love...

I wish I would had that ewith my GF's.... :2 cents:

PixeLs 01-16-2006 10:10 PM

Could be one of Ang Lee's greatest films! A heartwarming film I could say. :thumbsup

Bansheelinks 01-16-2006 10:20 PM

I'm open to seeing all kinds of films, but I have to be honest; a story about a couple of gay cowboys just doesn't grab my interest. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

BigCashCrew 01-16-2006 10:29 PM

I have no desire to see Brokebutt Mountain

eroswebmaster 01-17-2006 12:00 AM

If I want to see gay cowboys I'd just visit any cowboy bar in the D/FW area.

Sheesh nothing gayer than cowboys trying to dance.

tristan_D 01-17-2006 12:37 AM

art is not about what subject matter it tackles, or if it has one. the beauty of art lies on how it is presented. that's what my teacher in college used to point us with regards to our movie preferences.

MikeyFingaz 01-17-2006 12:41 AM

apparently if you want to get nominated for faggity assed movie awards, all ya gotta do, is make a faggity assed movie :2 cents:

usually movie critics are so out of touch with what the general public likes in a movie, that the mere fact that a film was nominated for some gay ass award means that the movie will be boring ass artsy gay shit :2 cents:

abadfish 01-17-2006 12:46 AM

This sounds like the type of a movie only a girl could drag me into the theater to see... so no, I probably won't see it.

Sarah_Jayne 01-17-2006 03:30 AM

everyone that I know what has seen it says it is fantastic. I am seeing it this week but it is never going to be something everyone likes. Art cinema is not for everyone if you are put off because it is two guys then you have bigger hangups that wether or not to see a movie.

I don't get why gay actors can never play gay characters when there is a major hollywood film. When I see it I am going to judge the performances on more than them daring to kiss another guy.

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 01-17-2006 04:07 AM

I enjoy good filmmaking, and I understand that Brokeback Mountain is filmmaking at it's finest.

While I enjoy a good action adventure movie, I prefer movies that rely on acting and scriptwriting over ones which are dependent upon special effects.

Comgratulations to Ang Lee for creating a challenging movie - hopefully the Golden Globe victory will motivate more people to get out and see his film.

never heard of it

woj 01-17-2006 06:58 AM

I have no idea how any straight man would willingly go see a gay love story flick...

OldSchoolJim 01-17-2006 07:16 AM

i only see movies with my wife...and she has some strange revulsion to watching men kiss....glad it is not the same for watching girls kiss!!

Holly 01-17-2006 07:19 AM

I can't wait until it hits DVD. I'll see it, for sure.

nico-t 01-17-2006 07:21 AM

some flick about cowboy flickers, no thanks!

BlackCrayon 01-17-2006 07:25 AM

Screaming 01-17-2006 07:27 AM

Never heard of it, so no lol.

Bansheelinks 01-17-2006 12:48 PM

yep, the oscars will be a big ZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz-fest.

loverboy 01-17-2006 01:27 PM

its every gay's dream movie

:smokin

G-Rotica 01-17-2006 01:42 PM

I don't like chick flicks. It sounds like a chick flick dressed as a cowboy movie.

Bird 01-17-2006 01:44 PM

I have no Idea about this.......is it gay?

It doesn't surprise me. Most people need some spectacular effect or a key villian to be entertained by a movie. This movie has subtle undertones, spectacular cinematography and an emotionally stirring storyline. I, for one, don't have to be beaten over the head to be entertained by a movie. Plot, storyline, acting entertain me.
And I'm worlds away from being gay. Calm down homophobes and try to intellectualize for once.
Just my :2 cents:

Ditto :thumbsup

Bansheelinks 01-17-2006 07:49 PM

I still don't hear people talking about this movie. Not even saying they WANT to see it, not even saying they DON'T WANT to see it......'cept for those religious freaks in that theater in Utah.

NoCarrier 01-17-2006 07:52 PM

Suuuure.. I'm almost certain 95% of everyone in this thread saw it and even cried. Just like everyone is claiming they never watch porn movies. Bullshit. :1orglaugh

Note : I'm in the 5% who didn't see it.

Bluewire Ross 01-17-2006 07:55 PM

Juicy for sure watched the movie.

This thread is homophobic!

bopha 01-17-2006 08:05 PM

Isn't this the "Gay Cowboys eating pudding movie" Cartman went to see at the Sundance type festival they had in SP?

Sounds dreadful anyway. Were the gay actors all busy?

Heath Ledger was awesome in Lords of Dogtown. THAT was an Oscar winning performance.

Agreed 100%
