I went out to buy a second snowmobile today

i shouldn't be allowed to own a checkbook.

i found a cool second sled. myself - i own a polaris 900 fusion - bought new last year.

didn't need new for a guest sled - also didn't want a KILLER sled for guests - just something nice and reliable.

so I was looking for a second sled for friends or guests - and found a 2003 polaris indy 550 air cooled - nice second sled for $4000.

fucker had two of them and took $7500 for both.

now i own 3 sleds....

SleazyDream 01-15-2006 11:56 PM

pick them up wed

Thurbs 01-15-2006 11:58 PM

CuriousToyBoy 01-16-2006 12:01 AM

I am SO glad I live in a place where snowmobiles are a pipedream ;-)

He he he

Scott, I'll come stay with you and snowmobile, then you come visit me and we can jet ski ;-)

Deal ?

quiet 01-16-2006 12:01 AM

so sleazy, what are the best snowmobiles? i seriously have no clue. polaris is the best?

Peaches 01-16-2006 12:02 AM

I had 1/2 an inch of snow on Sat. I could have used one of them thar things! (OK, it was only 1/2 an inch on the exposed deck - it melted on the grass and roads, but think of the fun I would have had riding a snowmobile on my deck!)

actually vintage it's polaris - they won more endurance races than any other model in the 70's and 80's

the new ski doo are awesome - comparable to the fusions - but the ski-dos get better milage.

cat is behind on their suspension on the high end ones now.

yamaha has the snow hawk which is in a whole other league and sooo cool

blazi 01-16-2006 12:25 AM

sounds like a good deal SB =) I can remember snowmobiling when I was younger, it was always lots of fun!!

the only racing in the 70's and 80's was oval racing, and cats, srx's and mercs owned the circuit. My dad has been sled racin since 75' an our collection is over 38 sleds. As for today, the dominant sled in sno-cross is the rev chassis. Sorry, our family has 30+ years racing sleds :2 cents:

Doctor Dre 01-16-2006 12:29 AM

Stop talking about it ... I remember when I was young at my grandfather... snow mobiles are so fucking cool

i dont do water, 99% of our sleds are vintage, be a shame to lose one :Oh crap

GTS Mark 01-16-2006 06:15 AM

Sweet deal! I think you will find that just buying those sleds was a good move as when the dirty caribou come out to sled again this winter we would have spent $2000+ just renting sleds.

Plus I don't feel bad wrecking your sleds LMAO!!! ;)

StuartD 01-16-2006 06:17 AM

How do they handle on gravel roads? :winkwink:

SilentKnight 01-16-2006 06:28 AM

I remember back in the late 70s when Yamaha first made the 540 SRV (with the coil shocks on the skiis). They didn't even have a CC classification for it at the snowmobile drag races at the local winter fair.

A buddy of mine bought one at the time, and ended up doin' just a few solo passes since no one could race him. Nothin' from the factory could touch'em at the time.

I owned a 399 Olympic back then - good for haulin' my fishhut out onto the lake each winter. Reliable as hell and everything could be fixed with a ball pein hammer and duct tape.
