Halcyon Said YES!!! tASSy's Got A New Dog! (PICS)

okay everyone! after all of your help in pursuading Halcyon to join the world of dog families everywhere by responding in this thread here:

http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showth...ht=halcyon+pug

and thanks to the reminder from bobbi billiard here:

http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showth...ht=halcyon+pug

i spent a lot of time researching pug rescue organisations and looking at places like craigslist, etc. for a pug that would be the perfect intro to dogs dog for Halcyon. in my opinion, we needed a dog that wasn't a puppy (needing to go through all training, housebreaking, learning boundaries, etc.) and wasn't entirely senior yet either (slower, let's face it, people bond with puppies easier than older dogs because they're just "so cute"). i also wanted a pug who was active enough to still play and be goofy because it was the clownlike nature of the pug that attracted me to them as my first small breed dog of choice and the piece that i think will win over Halcyon's heart. (i've always own large breed dogs - pit bull mutts, except growing up with dalmatians.)

a couple days ago i found a 2 year old female pug, spayed, living in a foster home with 5 other dogs who had been taken from her owner because she wanted to breed her even though she's the runtiest runt of pug you'd ever see. she weighs 11lbs, probably 12-13lbs now that she's been living with a foster for a few months. they called her peanut, but that's what my brother-in-law refers to his unborn child as, so we changed her name to LeeLoo Lebowski, combining The Fifth Element with The Big Lebowski (our favourite movie ever). so without further ado, here's LeeLoo!

http://static.flickr.com/37/86219052_7a20f20df5.jpg

we knew she was a good match for us when we found out her tongue won't stay inside her mouth - she's always showing something pink! :winkwink:

http://static.flickr.com/6/86333905_787ef9bb4d.jpg

she always wants to be either in my lap or sleeping very close to me. i'm not used to having something less than a foot tall following me *everywhere* i go. luckily she's too small to drink water out of the toilet bowl. :P

http://static.flickr.com/43/86334029_0e5e7cf03e.jpg

she's already a momma's girl, she defers to me when Halcyon is in the room, but that hasn't stopped her from licking his face to death if we're lying in bed. she also took to sleeping *all* the way under our fluffy pink comforter all night long, and when the bed's made she tries to find a way to pull back the covers to get in:

so welcome home LeeLoo and thank you GFY for helping me pursuade Halcyon to try the dog life!
:thumbsup

Congrats Tassy. What a little cutie!

Mohawk Steve 01-14-2006 02:37 PM

Pugs rock, glad you finally got your puppy :) Any plans to give it any pink fur anytime soon? ;)

Stallion 01-14-2006 02:38 PM

My wife will not let me get a dog. She absolutely hates them. :(

no, there will be no pinking of my pug's fur. =) someone told me yesterday they dye their pugs' tails with koolaid, but i have a feeling that'd just make leeloo run around in circles trying to taste her tail. :)

she does already have a heart shaped pink fluffy dog bed, but she only uses it when i'm sitting at my desk with my legs *crossed* otherwise she goes for the lap.

jmk 01-14-2006 02:40 PM

Ooooooooooooooooh a pug :thumbsup :thumbsup
They are the best :)

Let me upload a pic of mine...

WarChild 01-14-2006 02:41 PM

Good lord. How you could go from large breed dogs to small breed dogs is beyond me. Good on you for taking a dog from a rescue though. I think there's something noble about giving an animal without a home a good home. Enjoy your new friend.

Warren 01-14-2006 02:41 PM

Congrats Hal and Tassy, really cute looking dog.

Tassy what is it with you girls and animals this time of year? Martina has been scanning pet rescue sites all morning, if she has her way the whole house will be full of them :1orglaugh

Great seeing you guys in Vegas hope you had a great time.

aww i'm sorry! Halcyon was a self-proclaimed non-dog person - he had a dog once as a child, and i think it jumped on him and scared him - but past that no dogs growing up or in the family until after he'd moved out of the house. he didn't hate them, he just doesn't know how to deal with them. :) hopefully this little gal will help him.

you could always do like i did, stalk the dog parks and beaches for your fix. ;)

Pete-KT 01-14-2006 02:42 PM

Congrats sweetie, good work Halcyon;)

Matt 26z 01-14-2006 02:44 PM

That dog looks exactly how mine did when she was young.

hahaha, it must be the holidays, we start feeling maternal! i've been fiending for a dog since i gave my big dog to a friend when i moved in with Halcyon. (a pit bull/ridgeback puppy doesn't mix well with a 2BD/2BA all white condo with no yard.) has martina looked at petfinder.org? i think they're a good place to start with the type of dog you're looking for in your area, then they show you all the different rescue orgs that have dogs of that type nearby. =) good luck!

I think she is like Halcyon. Not sure if she hates them, I just think she doesn't know how to deal with them. But we shall see. Maybe one day I can talk her into getting a little dog.

Sly 01-14-2006 02:46 PM

Congratulations.

I don't think I could ever go small dog, I love the big guys. But any dog is better than a cat!

Sosa 01-14-2006 02:47 PM

too much pink for the dog!

it definitely took me a long time to change my mentality from "small dogs are only good as footballs" to loving pugs. when i first moved in with Halcyon i took a management position at a foofooey dog boutique around the corner, and my couple months there showed me more small breed dogs than i'd ever seen plus i got to hang out with some of my employee's dogs that came to work and fell in love with a couple. this is my first try with a small dog, but the pug's motto is "mutum in parvo," Latin for "a lot of dog in a little body". :)

that's my point! she's quite small for an adult pug, but i think it lends to her cuteness factor in sucking Halcyon in. :winkwink:

Congrats to both of you...LeeLoo is pretty freakin' adorable...and I really love how you gave her a last name. That it happens to be "Lebowski" is just another reason to adore you two -- one of my all-time favorites as well :) You should bring her to the Forum in a couple of months -- one of the benefits of little dogs is they travel well :)

Sammy4u 01-14-2006 03:21 PM

Awe, that is such a cutsie little pug. Congrats on the new addition to your pink family.

seeric 01-14-2006 03:21 PM

LEELOO

one of my favorite actresses of all time. mila jovavich. my god she is hot in fifth element, which is what prompted me to put her voice on my timeless classics cd.

thats such a good name for a doggy that you guys share your life with.

this also makes it less odd when *i* call Halcyon Daddy around other people, they'll just think it's because of the dog. :1orglaugh

i remember leslie's pug at cybernet san diego - i kept finding an excuse to cruise by their little padio outside their room to say hi to remi! Halcyon knew he was in love when on our first night together after some ravishing sex i said "can we watch some of the big lebowski before bed?" and he already had the movie in his hand. :)

thanks peaches! isn't she great? i'm so glad i could convince Halcyon to give it a try - now he's following her around the house with the video camera to make a little music video with her footage. i think it's working already... :thumbsup
