Dual 30-inch Dell LCD's - OH YES BABY!!

I ordered 2 of the new Dell's on Wed night and was lucky to get them before the weekend!! I wasn't sure if it was possible to run 2 of these massive screens on a single desktop. I didn't care if I had to return them, I had to try!!!!

Old Setup:
-Four 19-Inch Dell LCD's
-Resolution: 1280x1024 ea.
-5.2MP Desktop Space

New Setup:
-Two 30-Inch Dell LCD's
-Resolution: 2560x1600 ea.
-8MP Desktop Space
-Powered by Two Nvidia 7800 GTX's

Took a few hours to connect the video cards and configure these huge beasts (took specific drivers to reach the best resolution), but I can happily say that this has been money WELL SPENT!!!

Here's some hot photos, it's great wackoff material!! I wonder if I can get DeanCapture shoot them for Twistys! :1orglaugh

bro I love the LCD in the middle I am going to have to do that

Holy crap, that is sweet! I read another thread about this monitor a few days ago, and one of the posters commented how he'd rather have dual smaller monitors than be limited to a single giant 30" monitor. I would have bet against getting dual 30 inchers working without writing/obtaining custom drivers specifically for the purpose. With two cards per monitor, it just seems like something would *have* to go wrong. Quite a leap of faith...congrats!! :) I've been thinking about getting Apple's same-sized monitor, but am now waiting to read a comparison of the two.

Yeah the 7" TV works great! It's intended for a car, but works great still. Has 2 composite audio/video inputs and even a VGA input.

I've converted a few webmasters to my previous 4 monitor setup... it was slick also!! But I thought if this worked, it could increase my desktop by about 60%. I live for this stuff, I couldn't pass up the opportunity!!

a dream setup for a designer.... geeeeezzzz

Quotealex 01-14-2006 07:04 AM

I somehow prefer this 4 smaller monitor setup, tho I would personally limit it 3 monitors, on a desk of this depth and my eyes would be sore from sitting so close to 30" monitors. If I had two 30" monitors, I would put it up the wall and a 3 feet distance from it.

The 4 monitors are a nice setup too, and the pixel size was definitely bigger (.294mm). Those were actually too close, but I couldn't move them back any further on my desk. The new 30-inch monitors have to be a little closer to read the text, since the pixel size is .250mm.

Other comments so far:

So far, I'm loving this new setup much better. My trillian contacts are now in full view again, my browser window can view SO much more vertical content, and I can expand the Adobe GoLive/Photoshop windows a little larger without overlapping other windows.

As far as eyestrain, it doesn't seem to be any different then the previous monitors. Being on the computer this much can't be good, no matter what size the monitors are. Any additional strain will be on the neck and back since I'm not used to looking so high up. It doesn't seem to be a big deal yet though.
