Utah issues 1st fine under new porn law

(January 13) The Utah Division of Consumer Protection has issued its first $2,500 citation under Utah's seven-month-old Child Protection Registry law to a Canadian online pornography site. On December 4, operators of the site, whose name itself contains an expletive, allegedly sent a sexually explicit message to an email address registered as accessible to a minor.

I totally agree. But I do think that the parents as well as the site should be fined. What is the child doing on the net unattended. In this case it may be different. But you know what I mean.

I dont see the big deal I mean come on they assign pornography assignments in public schools these days. That would be sarcasm, sadly the porno homework story is true.

The Utah law allows sites to be fined even if the address opted in to recieve the mailings.

It also puts management of the do-not-mail list in the hands of a private company that charges a advertisers to scrub their lists. In short Utah is able place a defacto-tax on any email to any address that can be accessed from Utah that contains certain categories (porn, tobacco, gambling, etc) of speech.

Owners of the site, who list only a Post Office box in Gibsons, B.C., could not be reached for comment Thursday.
I have it on authority that the owner of the site is one "Nick Adonidas, Occupation: beachcomber".

such as a confirmation process that verifies age with the use of credit card, phone call or driver license

umm none of those would verfy age.. and i wold think it would be illegal for a canadian company to be asking for a drivers license of an american for age verification.. and how are they supposed to verify its real ?

Sending mail to a child's address, or to an address that COULD be a child's? I couldn't quite find out from the article.

spider_x 01-13-2006 09:08 PM

The only way to resolve this situation is to delete every existing email on the internet of the world and rename it to your appropriate age. They will have to be redeleted and reregistered every year and billions will spent but hey, gotta protect the children from an image of a breast, perhaps even a penis right? Lord knows they might grow up one day to produce infants. America must combat sex in the world. Any sex anywhere is a danger to the deaths of other people.

Instead of spending all this money on trying to fight something that will never end why don't we spend the money on educating lazy ass parents how to prevent things like this from happening in the first place. I am not saying you can ever be 100% safe but lets get realistic here, there are alot of options out there to keep kids away from porn until they get to the right age.

DISCHEAD 01-13-2006 10:20 PM

Fah King 01-13-2006 10:32 PM

bdld 01-13-2006 10:40 PM
