wordpress - from a 2 column blog to a 3 column blog
so to test it i installed the wordpress script on a testsite, and copied the 2 column theme from my active blog to there.
Then i made three columns of it, i added an extra "leftmenu.php" file in the theme folder and some changes in the other php files plus the stylesheet. My question is, once i tweaked the 3 column design on my testsite til perfection, can i just copy the new 3 column theme and overwrite my old theme of the active blog without any more changes? Since i dont really know if it also affects the db and screws the site up.. i dont think so, since it's just a theme. But just to make sure that i dont fuck up the active site, any wordpress experts ever did this? |
test it on yet a third site . .

yea i could do that

You don't overwrite themes. Just make a new folder in the wp-content/themes/ folder for your new theme, upload it there, then switch to it from inside Wordpress (under Presentation)
If the new theme doesn't work properly, switch back to your old theme. |
there is only one way to find out if it will work... do it.
