Will FCC Stifle Howard Stern on Satellite?

Dude, if that mother fucking idiot of a radio dj ruins satellite radio for the rest of us, I am personally going to ruin his life....he already panders to the lowest of the low intelligence levels, now he is going to get the FCC involved with satellite radio and get it censored as well

Why does that idiot Howard Stern have to be our poster boy for free speech?

Quote:

Controversial shock jock Howard Stern is behind the microphone again but now he?s completely uncensored on satellite radio. Sirius Satellite Radio is calling the debut of Howard Stern?s uncensored talk show ?The biggest day in radio since the first day in radio.? This is how they described the debut on their web site.

?It?s amazing you know how much growth he?s giving this company, there are ten?s of thousands people signing up every day now to Sirius.?

But others are wondering if the sexually explicit talk show should cause the Federal Communications Commission to begin regulating satellite broadcasts. Robert Knight with the Culture and Family Institute is one of those.

?I?m kind of wondering what Howard Stern is going to do to promote his show, because he?s already scraped the bottom of the garbage pail on his regular FM radio show, so to attract new listeners via shock, he?s going to have to turn the garbage can upside down and beat on the outside I guess.?

Stern avoided the FCC by moving to satellite but Knight is hoping that will change. He wants the FCC to take a closer look at satellite programming. Patrick Trueman with the Alliance Defense Fund says Stern may require tougher action.

?The Justice Department has regulatory authority over all obscene material. The FCC has authority over indecent material; a lesser standard and so the FCC is not likely to go after Howard Stern who will be broadcasting obscenity. That?s a matter for Justice Department.?

In the meantime, Trueman says subscribers to Sirius should reconsider paying for a service that promotes the exploitation of women and children. A report from the Associated Press says Howard Stern has promised everything from stripper poles to live sex on his new show.

sumphatpimp 01-11-2006 06:27 PM

relax.
the FCC thing is part of his act.

mx8829 01-11-2006 06:30 PM

common give me a break , if you dont like his stuff fucking change the channel , FCC my Asss

there are better things that regulators look for than chasing after stren because bunch of bible pushers think everyone should live like them

EdgeXXX 01-11-2006 06:32 PM

The FCC has no control over it now.

EroticySteve 01-11-2006 06:32 PM

Jace, I don't see that happening.

You have to pay to subscribe to Satellite Radio.

You can block channels from the top level so that you don't even recieve them.

The laws would be similar to Cable TV which isn't bound by the same laws that govern broadcast TV.

Plus, I'd also disagree that Stern's show caters to the lowest common denominator. He has some of the lowest common denominator as guests and cast but that's part of the show's uniqueness.

From what I've heard, their demographics are among the widest of any daily show from what I understand. Viacom was probably very scared about his departure and still probably is because he is such a financial asset.

infecto 01-11-2006 06:34 PM

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH stern is going to ruin my radio.

SmokeyTheBear 01-11-2006 06:37 PM

stern already said he is going to basically play by the same rules as he was playing by because its what makes his act good. it aint funny if its not bleeped..

OG LennyT 01-11-2006 06:50 PM

They think he is crude and explicit.... lol. turn to that Shade (pronounced Shay-dee)

Seems To Me Some People Have The Same Feeling About Adult Webmasters. They Cater To Perverts And The Lowest Of The Low.You Don't Have To Listen To Him And You Don't Have To Like Him I Highly Doubt He's Going To Ruin Satelitte Radio.

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 01-11-2006 07:04 PM

Make no mistake Stern is one of us.

He is doing whats best for himself and paving a way for our future.
Adult Entertainment would be nothing without critics.

gornyhuy 01-11-2006 07:05 PM

Just because some born again christian assmunch says the FCC and DoJ SHOULD look into regulating doesn't mean they will or that they can.

bjjb 01-11-2006 07:37 PM

fuck the fcc and the haters. other than a few fucks, shit, pussys and some other pretty tame shit, the shows not that different than it used to be. Altho it pretty damn funny hearing some of the old bits playes with out the fuking bleeps.

Hey, lighten up. In the highly unlikely event that satellite radio were to be, shall we say, virtually castrated the blame would lie entirely w/the bible thumpers not Stern.

As a strong supporter of Free Speech and the right to broadcast what you want on public airwaves, I get really pissed off that I have to run to the defense of someone who I already think is a total idiot. Gee, thanks for endangering EVERYONE's right to free speech by wrapping yourself in the flag and rubbing your right to say whatever retarded bullshit you want in the FCC's nose. It is very grudgingly that I stand behind him as he's booted off the air for broadcasting something that someone thought was offensive. If anything, I was hoping eventually his show would be cancelled because America wouldn't have enough idiots to think he was cool and keep his advertising revenue coming in. This is not how it should have ended - with me rallying behind the moron for his right to be a moron.

everyone is entitled to their opinion but i would love to know how you came up with yours?

a person who is a money machine can not be considered a moron especially when people fear of losing that machine.

um.....money doesn't make someone who they are...and it doesn't matter how much money you have, you can still be an idiot

i came up with my opinion by listening to his show a few times and see him on various talk shows...he is a moron

Jace 01-12-2006 07:40 AM

my good friend put it best when he wrote this:

http://negativepositive.org/Things-t...ed-to-die.html

Quote:

"Wow. You have a nice body. Hey, Gary. She has a nice body, huh?" "Yeah." "Wow. Those are nice breasts. Can I see them? Wow. Those are nice. Hey Gary, can you see these?" "Yeah. They're nice." "Wow. Are those real? Really? I thought they were fake. Wow. Turn around for me? Wow."
Don't get me wrong. I'm a great fan of bad taste and immaturity, but this guy has made an entire career out of completely inane third grader humor. People always say they love him because "you never know what he's going to say next." REALLY? You seriously can't predict with 99% accuracy what he's going to say? He might say things that are politically incorrect or irreverent or whatever, but can you actually sit there and tell me you can't see it coming a mile away? He probably looks at the Stile Project and thinks it's highbrow humor. Fart Man: Now THERE'S something truly inventive and ingenious. Very oblique and off-the-cuff. Yeah- there's nothing in the world more interesting and entertaining than watching a girl who is as intelligent as beige wallpaper with giant headphones and computer-distorted breasts talking to a middle-aged drooling idiot.

Certainly by not actually listening to the show :winkwink:

Cassie 01-12-2006 07:45 AM

actually he is a genuis. he took radio to a new level on his own. you think david lee roth will be able to do what he has done? can you name anyone who has turned around the face of radio the way stern did? can you name at least half a dozen people who have riden his coattails with the way they do their shows now?

again, you're entitled to your opinion however, even the government fears stern which is why they went after him so hard.

read about the man and maybe you will come up with a more informed opinion on why you feel he's a moron rather than "just because".

edit: money, indirectly, does make a person who they are and will ultimately decide where that person goes.

Yet you have to go back nearly 2 decades and dig up Fart Man as an example of his moronism? :upsidedow

please do not base your opinion of me upon a board conversation. ahem!

i do not idiolize him. as a matter if fact, i did not like him in his earlier years on radio. i am not a subscriber to sirruis. what i am is someone with an open mind who took the time to read about him and robin. what got me liking him more is that this woman, who is educated, came from a rough background and basically put everything on the line for him, STAYED with him. add to that, the guy graduated top in his class from Boston University (which I might add is not a low level college).

the fact that he has loyal friends/coworkers got me thinking that he really isn't that bad. just because he has strippers on his show and drug users does not mean he's an idiot.

let me inform you, what he has on his show is really not much different then what you associate with at any one of the trade shows. the only difference is that the people who he has on his show are upfront about who they are; unlike many i see posting.

i am assuming you promote porn sites? then maybe you are in the same catagory because you peddle porn? maybe? maybe you're peddling to the same listeners as stern does? maybe you're just as guilty as he is which makes you a moron by indirect association?

far be it for me to tell you what to believe. however, if you're going to come up with an opinion of stern, me or anyone else, be a bit more informed about who you come up with an opinion of before you speak for as i just showed you with your opinion of me, you are dead wrong.

SoftFocus 01-12-2006 01:07 PM

A true listener of the show knows that the strippers, nudity, lesbianism are part of the show sure...but also you have national guests that many other shows don't...and they are interviewed in a way that Leno etc won't. Sure he asks about their sex habits etc but they know that going in. He also has some great musical performances from artists in studio too.
Call him an 'idiot' and 'moron'...but some of the 'geniuses' on here could only hope to have a small small % of his success.
Satellite radio is a value even without him

smack 01-12-2006 01:24 PM

the FCC can't really do shit. sattelite radio is a subscription service. they talk about censoring hbo alot too. they have no legal grounds to do it.
