Today's spelling lesson: DEFINITELY

I make spelling mistakes just like everyone else, but this is one word that gets fucked up by about 60% of gfyers every single time: DEFINITELY.

Easy way to remember it ... De FINITE ly.

FINITE.

Thanks,

-Phil

definitely annoying, definitely.

mortenb 01-11-2006 03:08 PM

sorry.. but it is DEFINITELY a hard word for a lot of us with english as a second or third language.. most of the time I can hear how a word should be spelled, but that one is particularly hard.. :-)

Tassy, I must say that I have noticed your correct spelling of definitely in other threads, and it always puts a smile on my face. Ok, ok, there's usually more to your threads than the spelling that makes me smile, but you get the idea. :) :) :thumbsup :thumbsup

I can understand that for sure, it is a hard one. That's why I tried to sound it out for you the way that I personally remember it ... "De-FINITE-ly".

:winkwink:

Wiggles 01-11-2006 03:37 PM

spelling doesn't bother me so much as grammar, the usage 'seen' and 'saw' really piss me off.

example
wrong way: 'I seen him the other day'
correct way: ' I saw him the other day'.

You know, it isn't that I don't want to spell it right, I am a DAMN good speller usually, but that is one word for some reason that is always tricky for me. To be honest I have agonized over it for years, even time I try and spell it...LOL...i just decided long ago to not even worry about it anymore. With outlook and word correcting my mistakes it makes it easier...LOL

you know what is funny...I am a visual learner...now that you did that, I seriously doubt I will ever spell it wrong again...

sometimes it is the simple things, you know?

Theo 01-11-2006 11:30 PM

i mispell it often

even worse sometimes i have to google it to see the correct one cause i can't fucking remember it.

Mitch Cumstein 01-11-2006 11:37 PM

Tomorrow we should cover "alot". It is not a word.

If you can?t remember the rule, just remind yourself that just as you wouldn?t write ?alittle? you shouldn?t write ?alot.?

Baker Rd 01-11-2006 11:40 PM

good one, even think I used to spell it 'definately', but i'm from the south

studiocritic 01-11-2006 11:52 PM

aside from definite, is separate. lots of "seperate".
