AVN finally lost their mind?

So a company that's done NOTHING for Internet webmasters other than take take take is now going to try and compete with a show that does EVERYTHING for webmasters?

I seriously hope Ron and Co. take offense to this and schedule next year's Forum the exact same dates.

Viva la Phoenix Forum

After this years Vegas show, I will miss Vegas next year. I've always been a big fan of the Phoenix Forum. It's a much better show.

KingK7 01-11-2006 11:17 AM

Yeah thats pretty fucked up...

ShaneRyale 01-11-2006 11:20 AM

Damn, I guess I'll be missing Internext in Vegas next year.

TheLegacy 01-11-2006 11:30 AM

I love the people at AVN, and have supported them for years - but to come off of a big loss like this year because of planning, then to go up against one of the favorite shows in Phoenix is making me believe that no one there is thinking of the webmasters.

AVN go back to your roots - think like you really do care that webmasters show up and their opinion instead of giving us yours. Your not doing anyone a favor including yourselves with this change of heart.

pornguy 01-11-2006 11:32 AM

Ofcourse they are not thinking of the webmasters. they are thinking on the money!

Trax 01-11-2006 11:38 AM

It would rock if Ron would reshedule the phoenix forum to exactly the same dates
that would send the right signal to AVN!!!

seeric 01-11-2006 11:49 AM

i've already got some info that those 2007 dates are possibly changing, so lets not make a huge deal about it yet. phoenix forum is definitely getting my support the month of march for certain. i would not go to vegas for an internext in march and i doubt if any of the people that currently support an awesome show like phoenix forum would go either. to be fair, one thing that i recommend to people is that they write to avn. let them know how you feel. i can assure you that posts on gfy about avn are not going to be taken as serious as a sincere professionally written letter to the decision makers. many of you do not know that the person that even schedules these shows for them doesn't even work in adult, nor like it from what i've been told. she is strictly a tradeshow person and has nothing to do with internet, and works strictly in tradeshows and their production. i've written a letter to avn and i suggest that if people want to try and make it better then write to them too.

send your letters to:

Darren Roberts
Paul Fishbein
Farley Cahen
Susan Clark
Renee Richards

don't send an email. take the time to write a letter like you would to your congressman.

mail it to 9414 Eton Ave,
Chatsworth, CA 91311.

if they don't listen to the customers input, then hey, you did what you could and the internet shows will progress into what they are on there way to already. i personally love going to vegas. i was absolutely disgusted with the way all the fanboys and drunken idiots with cameras were treating the women at the hotel. i think if they keep it in january. move it away from CES and overlap it one day with internext like its always been and have it at a seperate hotel to keep the overzealous fans away from the webmasters and the girls that work in the biz, content and non content, then it will be freaking awesome again. i'm done shooting my mouth off now.

my six cents.

DWB 01-11-2006 11:50 AM

oh come on... AVN cares about us.

WiredGuy 01-11-2006 11:54 AM

Yup, I noticed that and I really would love it if Phx Forum overlapped the exact same dates because it would be no competition which event would get more attendees. As it stands I'll probably attend both, but I'd much rather attend only Phx Forum.

That's all decent advice, but at the same time, AVN isn't the only option like it used to be. I really don't care what they do, certainly not enough to take my time and write a letter when they should be the ones running around asking for client input. Its their show, if they want to run it into the ground by not listening to their client base then thats their problem and theirs alone.

I'm not going to write a letter to the McDonald's headquarters saying I don't like their burgers, I simply won't buy one, I have options.

Toolz 01-11-2006 11:58 AM

A1R3K,

Nice list of 5 people at AVN who definetly don't give 2 shits about the internet side of things so long as it keeps lining their pocket books. They tried to address Internet customers by hiring Ally, smartly she got outta the line of fire when she realized they don't care about making any positive changes, just positive cash flow.

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 01-11-2006 11:58 AM

Good ideas AIR3K... :thumbsup

i will only be attending phoenix forum, costa rica bash, and webmaster access cancun. thats three shows in two months time frame really.

that march booking for internet next year would slap a bunch of people in the face.

internext vegas in march would be a disrespectful move in my opinion. i think they should just keep the one internext in florida and make it the best it could possibly be. i wish that we could just go back to like 2000 - 2001. thats when i really had fun at internext vegas.

Toolz 01-11-2006 12:00 PM

Good points Sly, my sentiments exactly, AVN is no longer the big player in the convention biz it once was and the combining of the show was just a tip of their hand that they know their Internet show is losing it's importance.

Toolz 01-11-2006 12:02 PM

A1R3K,

While I agree they should only try and do one show a year why on earth in August in Florida?

Hell is cooler then.

I'm sure New Orleans will have plenty of vacancy by then maybe they can move it back there lmfao.

TheGoldenChild 01-11-2006 12:07 PM

San Diego
Phoenix
Amsterdam
Los Angeles

These are the only cities I will be attending shows in from now on

seeric 01-11-2006 12:11 PM

i'm just throwing out an idea. i talked to susan clark in the hallway for awhile and she seemed very genuine to me. i don't think that they have malicious views towards us and just want our money. i do think that there are breakdowns in the structure of how these shows are handled and how the information is passed on, and at what level that information if being given credit to. sly is very correct. there are alot of shows now that are run by internet people. people that we can jump on our cell phones and talk to when we want to give them an idea or just say "hi". i think that avn should listen very carefully to what people have to say at this point. thats why i suggested people take the official documented route and speak their mind. i'm not trying to say that anyone will listen. if it all goes to shit and that show dies at least i sent them my letter letting them know how i feel. hell, they coulda made about 35k out of us this year on the low end had it not been such a cluster. i'm glad i followed my gut and decided against doing any kind of sponsoring. sadly, it was the mess i expected it to be. thats why i went out to hang out, have a good time, and just watch to see what ensued. lets see what happens. i know that if its the same next year, i won't exhibit.

I agree that letters seem unnecessary. They no doubt talk to their major sponsors, and likely have someone monitoring threads like this on the major boards. The nature of conferences has changed over the years (e.g. emphasis on social gatherings over booths). With more competing shows, they need to pay attention to how they position themselves.

Among other things, if making a switch, it seems like nice weather has helped the other shows. Maybe they prefer shitty weather because it keeps people more hotel-bound and apt to wander the show floor, which is where they make a lot of money, but that must be weakening. Between shittily cold Vegas, and shittily hot & muggy Florida, competing shows are more attractive to me. Florida in March would make sense, but Vegas is still chilly then.

Fah King 01-11-2006 12:37 PM

Now Guys Dont Forget About the Qwebec Expo in Montreal! I realy want to see you all there.

Ross 01-11-2006 12:40 PM

it is just as good as everyone says and even better. i hope that the city has that music festival again during the weekend of the show. they had an art and music festival in the streets. that was cool too.

MJ_AVN 01-11-2006 01:08 PM

We are still debating some options as to dates and formats of the winter Internext show. I've already solicited quite a bit of input from those working in the online industry and will continue to do so. I'd love to hear yours - please email me or feel free to hit me on ICQ.
No letter necessary.

that's like printing wedding invitations the moment you are not sure you'll get married lol

Cyndalie 01-11-2006 01:27 PM

Ross, it's just just as good, its better. Last year exceeded my expectations and was the best show I've been to in my 8 years of attending events in this biz.

AVN will start carring when the internet becomes the prevelant way to view porn by consumers. Problem is none of us will want anything to do with AVN when that happens. Its not far down the road before this is a reality and AVN better wakeup before they destroy their entire business by shunning the people who control the technology that will run the business in the future. Im looking foward to my first Phoenix show this year, and my last Intenext Las Vegas after this fiasco.

Rant done carry on.
