How many sales per month til you consider someone (affiliate) a whale?

What ammount of NEW JOINS per month would you consider somebody to be a "whale"

Is it 500 (i wouldnt think this little)
1000, 2000
5000 joins per month?

Im curious, please discuss.

FunForOne 01-08-2006 04:47 PM

damn. I would think most programs would send limos to pick up an affiliate with 500 joins a month.

They wouldn't admit it, but I bet many dont have that.

Lace 01-08-2006 04:48 PM

Not many AT ALL that are capable of sending 500 joins a month...

sfera 01-08-2006 04:48 PM

not sure maybe 5/day?

ry0t 01-08-2006 04:50 PM

500 is the start of being a gangster yo.

I mean as an affiliate sending joins, and not to all one program. So 100 to program a, 200 to program b, etc. Most of us use a few sponsors, and many of us use dozens, i am speaking of the totals to all.

Quotealex 01-08-2006 04:53 PM

I wouldn't want to sent massive SU to any sponsors these days. Damn too risky IMO.

Gottis 01-08-2006 04:54 PM

Depends on the size of the program.

BBros prolly thinks 15 or whatever a day is a whale, while ProgramCash123 is happy about a dude sending 5 a day - every day.

I'm sorry what

If you're sending 15 a day to a program they gonna take good care of you. End of story.

pornguy 01-08-2006 04:59 PM

think about what you are saying. If someone was sending 500 a month. that is 16.66666 a day. times 30 to 40$ they would be paying out this guy 20k a month at 40$ per. How many programs are doing that to one guy??

TheDoc 01-08-2006 04:59 PM

It depends on the size of the program. Big programs can pay out $10k+ a week to some webmasters. While a smaller programs, a webmaster sending 10 joins a day, every day, could be a whale for them.

If you tried to put a standard to it, I would say 500+ is large webmaster, 1000+ is a huge webmaster, 2000+ is a whale.

Most large programs do have a few whales or rather large join sending webmasters. A long running, high paying pps program can easily get a good number of webmasters doing 500+ joins a month.

in a realistic POV and provided we aren't talking about special deals, program owners,etc.. around 150 a month.

Don't buy when people say 500 (unless trials are included) or so...we aren't in 1999 anymore folks

I know there are a few of us, but even with all the lip service on gfy, I find it hard to believe that many affiliates can come up with 500+ joins a month.

The guys that can do that, have started their own paysites by now.

wedouglas 01-08-2006 05:04 PM

Depends. I send consistant joins every month, maybe 60-70 to a program and they told me I am one of their best affiliates.

I would imagine you are a whale if you get the whale bonus. Bang Bros is 210 per period.

That is a lot if you ask me.

500 a month overall is pretty damn good overall.

Claude 01-08-2006 05:07 PM

I send 194 new joins to the sponsor i my sig last month (revshare), so I guess that makes me a semi-whale in their eyes :winkwink:

If every affiliate we have signed up sent just 1 sale a day I'd be a happy mother fucker.

I could deal with almost 2000 sales a day.

I think that alot of sponsers would be sending you valuable prizes to get you to send them 200 joins a month. That is a whale in most eyes.

I'd rather spread 15 SU over 3 similar sponsors and reduced my chance of getting screwed even if that mean losing out on gifts sponsors like to give to "whales".

TheDoc 01-08-2006 05:13 PM

I can name at least 20 webmasters off the top of my head (not paysite owners) that can do 500+ joins in a month, to one single sponsor.

The problem is MOST webmasters split the traffic up over a few sponsors. Also staying consistent with just one sponsor for a long period of time is hard. Webmasters move around, for a few months I may get the sales, the next few months it's someone else. However most large webmasters do have one or two sponsors that they consistently push a larger percentage of the sales too.

bhutocracy 01-08-2006 05:14 PM

don't believe the bullshit you read here. Most programs would be very happy to get someone sending 100 a month. 500 a month would most definately be a whale.
The thing to remember is that most people that can send 100 sign ups a month are also sending another 100 sign ups to a couple of different places, so when someone inevitably goes "100 a month is good? you idiot heaps of people do that - i do that am i a whale?" they don't realise 100 signups as a program and as an affiliate is a different thing in most cases. 100 is all the program is seeing from that affiliate because they're using more than one program in most cases.. for the affiliate the program is only making 20% or whatever of their income. 20 sales a month with each of 5 different programs doesn't make you a whale.. 100 sales a month with each of a couple of different programs might.
Then again for a large program that covers most niches it's a bit easier for a whale to send them all their traffic. Although i don't know too many people who rely on one program for 100% of their income. anywho.. bascially theres no need to go into the 1000's.. obviously some people can do that. But realistically most programs would be very happy with someone sending far less.

I think that is a pretty good strategy. I am not whale by any means, but I think sponsers will bend over backwards for most affiliates sending 15 a month.

That is enough to let them know that you are capable of more. Someone sending 1 or 2 signups a month could still be a lost cause.

Most of you are pretty off base here.

500 sales a month is nothing. I realise most people here are full of shit but the people saying that sending 200 a month to a program and they will think you are gold are just wrong.

Nasty wont even answer your emails @ 200 a joins a month, nor at 500, and they arent the only ones, i send a couple 175-200 and in all honesty, they could give a fuck.

500 is not that many sales, i still think that 1000 per month (across the board to all programs) qualifies you for whale status.

As an affiliate, how many joins to all programs to be considered an whale. And most programs (worth the time) dont see that as anything special...i mean sure they want your business, but your just another 50 a week asshole to them.

Yes, 500 is little, all affiliates do that. A whale sends about 200 signups per day.

larsson 01-08-2006 05:45 PM

i do

Well i do about 70 a month to one sponser
20 month to another
10 month to another
plus run 2 other buisnesses phonesex and sms sex which are my main 2 big payers, the sponsers above are just extra cash and im pretty happy with 100 a month in joins to them, if i had more time i know i could do more.

500 joins a month would be sweet tho :thumbsup

I remember some Bang Bros affiliate posting his numbers on here. Was like 85 a day. I think they said he was one of their big guys.

Dirty Dane 01-08-2006 05:49 PM

From what I've seen from the top affiliate lists, for those programs having it, it can't be many whales left :winkwink:

Now, that's a fucking whale!!

There are still tons of them out there, I can name a bunch, but it's definitely over 500 a month, I'd say more around 1000 makes you a whale.

I'll have to take your word for it. I'm not an expert. I do however have two programs that let you see your rank. One of them lets you see the top 100 affiliate earnings. In that program, only the top 25 are getting 1,000 bucks a month commission with the top earner getting over 6k a month. That program may be small compared to alot of the industry, but I was under the impression that was the rule and only a few big programs were the exception.

I will say that I learn something new everyday and I am continually surprised at some of the numbers I see. It doesn't impress me, just makes me feel sad that I cant get up to the top.

I do what that top earner above you mentioned in a month with tcg and im ranked 146, i know its not based on traffic, but i doubt im in the top 50 for sales even at that level.

I also send between 150-200 a month to a SMALL sponsor and i know the owners/reps, and im just outside the top 10.

Thats a small sponsor (allthough old and well promoted).

When i say 200 a month is nothing to the big guys it really is. And about being sad you cant get to the top, you can. 1 of 2 things will get you there, either work harder, or work smarter. Good Luck.

tony286 01-08-2006 06:31 PM

5000 signups a month the program owner would give you his sister lol

We do more for people with less, then again we are niche even though we are pretty big in the gay market. 200/mo to one program is pretty damn good and most programs out of the obvious top bunch would kill for it. However i guess BangBros is obviously going to have some kind of whale relativity thing going on compared to myfirstgoatbeingasponsor.com. It all depends on what you'd call "worth the time" in a sponsor. I can assure you most programs wish they has a few more "50 a week assholes" - a lot of "worth the time" ones too.

Hardlinks 01-08-2006 06:41 PM

(worth the time) was a poor description on my part.

Its more like worth the time to persue with the traffic and methods being used by myself.

Last year I sent on average 150 sales to nasty a month and they e-mailed me and assigned me special sales rep and icq number and told me I was considered a premium webmaster. I could get an e-mail or icq message from them within hours, so who knows, Im not a whale

FunForOne 01-08-2006 07:02 PM

If I was a program owner I would make sure the guys sending 100 - 200 sales a month had my cell phone number and got paid early. Send them a few thank you notes here and there and then stay out of their way for the most part.

I would look for the guys sending 20-50 sign ups a month and see what I could do to develop them. They more than likely know what they are doing and are spreading the signups around to several programs. Also, maybe they just need a bump or a little personal attention to give them incentive to grow to a 100-200 a month affiliate. They may be satisified and stagnant.

I would spend most of my time on them without ignoring every single request from the big guys.

I only got one christmas card this year and it was from Lightspeed. I'm sad to say that I dont send them that much of my traffic and I am nowhere close to being someone they should know. Maybe I should start sending more. The programs I send more to didn't send anything.

i have sent several sponsors well over 100 signups a month, didnt get a bonus , didnt get a card , haven't heard a word.. infact one of them i pulled my traffic and they havent even asked me why or sent me a message.. some companies just dont care.. :2 cents:

then there are other companies who butter the affiliates up real nice, but you give them traffic and they do 10 signups with the same traffic, so im unsure of the moral of this story.. :1orglaugh

fuck-U-jimmy 01-08-2006 08:38 PM

I send an average of 120 joins a month to a program and they treat me very well. If i need content its there in hours, if i need special images or videos they shoot it for me. They reply to my e-mails within hours and i have a direct phone # for them. So i guess they think im worth something with just a 120 joins a month ?

Tom_PM 01-08-2006 08:44 PM

I honestly dont care if I get gifts and such :) I'm happy with the moola moola money money gimme gimme more more.

Whales know who they are I'd guess. Since the question is not about sales to one program, but overall to all of their sponsors.. I'd guess they're ok without comparing to others :)
