What is the fastest bus speed out now? Is it still 800mhz for mobo and cpu? And that utilizes slow ass DDR400 ram? I want a new pc but if my above assumptions are true then there is no point, rambus from 100 years ago is still quicker.

Jarmusch 01-08-2006 11:35 AM

Rambus is obsolete.

DDR 400 is not the fatest anymore you can get DDR2 up to PC4800 for your Pentium D.

Actually you can get PC5300 but it doesnt help you at all unless your mobo and cpu have better bus speeds too. Are pentium D's 800 or 1066 ?

And Jar - no one like paying out the ass for it and no one liked how god damn picky it was but it is still much quicker than ddr400.

Whoa there! First, it's not that simple. The fastest available Front Side Bus right now would be Intel's Extreme Edition at over 1GHz. AMD processors run at 1GHz (but it is measured differently than intel's method). Also keep in mind that "800MHz", for example, is quad-pumped; the actual number is 1/4 of that = 200MHz. There are ALOT more factors these days than just counting the FSB, CPU, and DDR numbers.

I never need to compare Intel to AMD because I know I'm not buying AMD. This appears to be the best cpu for me

That one's a DAMN good CPU. I've got that one on one of my home systems and it rocks. Only thing, it tends to run Very hot so either get an aftermarket cooler and some ArcticSilver or H2O cool it like we did. :winkwink:
