Yep, CNN just said it was a result of pressure from other congressmen.

No, it is the pressure because, amoungst others, Abramoff pleaded guilty and will likely be naming names, pointing fingers, and revealing where all the dirty money went to.

2006 is an election year, and republicans know they need to get the dirty stuff up and out of the way now before it gets in the way of the elections.

There is potential for a HUGE swing in the house and senate in 2006.
