Buying a Truck: Recommends?

I think the Nissan Titan is the sexiest truck out there.

Who's got trucks and what do you recommend?

The old car died and Tev wants a truck.

He's over six foot, so it has to be comfortable, too.

Veterans Day 01-06-2006 03:15 PM

if you are using a truck for its intended purpose then there is no better truck than an F-Series. You sound like an F-150 would fit the bill. Here's my summer truck for the small boat and my larger for the big boat. There is a reason Ford sold 925k+ F-series pickups last year!

Get a Chevy truck.. the crew cab 2500 HD look very sexy

SilentKnight 01-06-2006 03:25 PM

F-series all the way, baby! :thumbsup

sickkittens 01-06-2006 03:26 PM

I haven't driven them but I like the look of the Tundras and the GMC Sierra.

sickkittens 01-06-2006 03:26 PM

And definately get a crew cab, not extended cab. :2 cents:

Damn you should work for Ford that was a pretty nice advertisement.

BillPMB 01-06-2006 03:36 PM

I'm pretty partial to my F250 V10 with the lift.

Way fun in the summer to see how many women drive around commando. :)

Raven 01-07-2006 07:04 AM

Sounds like a lot of Ford people in here....Veteran's Day...that was definitely quite the endorsement for Ford....appreciate it.

Here's the thing, though. I've never been a great lover of Ford products....and where I grew up, one was either a GM fan or Ford, Lincoln, Mercury....we were firmly entrenched on the GM side....

But, because of what you said, we will definitely look at the F Series. Not as sexy as the Titan, but it's for my Tev, not me....

Thanks!

sonofsam 01-07-2006 07:08 AM

f-150 hands down

and i've driven all different kinds of trucks from ram 1500-3500 to f-150 f-350

THE best truck :thumbsup

Shok 01-07-2006 08:21 AM

Ive had 3 Chevy Silverados and they never let me down.

I also had a Ford F-150 Harley Davidson. And although it was very fast and loud, it began having problems at about 3200 miles.

ready lube 01-07-2006 08:29 AM

I'm not to for sure anymore but I thought at one time you were only able to get parts for Nissan's at the dealership. Anyway, I really like toyota and both the Tacoma and the Tundra have great life span and great reviews from what I've read and heard. I'm partial to extra cabs as opposed to the 4 door trucks; there just isn't enough bed left with all them doors in my opinion.

What's your time frame on buying a truck? A good time to shop is at the end of the month when the sales people are trying to meet their sales target for that pretty little bonus they get. Let us know what you end up getting!

Raven 01-07-2006 08:40 AM

He doesn't want a full sized truck....he's more wanting something mid sized, maybe the Nissan Frontier or a Toyota or a Chevy....

He's already got a big SUV for work, so this is a knock around truck for hauling....seems we never have one when we need one..and we're tired of borrowing trucks.

I figured the beginning of January would be a good time, especially for American trucks, since they may have left overs...I'm not partial to used cars and trucks...I'd rather break them myself than inherit someone else's problems...

You waited too long to get "left-overs" Ford did 0% for 72 months and 3, 250 dollar visa cards to use for whatever you wanted. This was 6-7 months ago when they were deep discounting 05 F-series trucks.

check out the ridgeline. they aren't the nicest to look at but so much better than anything else in that segment unless you want to do serious off roading in which case look elsewhere. coolest thing is the water tight trunk beneath the bed of the pickup.

FiReC 01-07-2006 12:49 PM

i like the tundra, got a 4runner myself and love it.

CheneyRumsfeld 01-07-2006 12:57 PM

Rockin? through the night.
Yeah, we got a little convoy,
Ain?t she a beautiful sight?
Come on and join our convoy
Ain?t nothin? gonna get in our way.
We gonna roll this truckin? convoy

[on the cb]
Ah, breaker, pig pen, this here?s the duck. and, you wanna back off them hogs? yeah, 10-4, ?bout five mile or so. ten, roger. them hogs is gettin? in-tense up here.

By the time we got into tulsa town,
We had eighty-five trucks in all.

And them bears was wall-to-wall.

They even had a bear in the air!
I says, callin? all trucks, this here?s the duck.
We about to go a-huntin? bear.

Rockin? through the night.
Yeah, we got a great big convoy,

And left ?em settin? on the scales.
By the time we hit that chi-town,
Them bears was a-gettin? smart:
They?d brought up some reinforcements
From the illinoise national guard.
There?s armored cars, and tanks, and jeeps,
And rigs of ev?ry size.
Yeah, them chicken coops was full?a bears
And choppers filled the skies.
Well, we shot the line and we went for broke
With a thousand screamin? trucks
An? eleven long-haired friends a? jesus
In a chartreuse micra-bus.

[on the cb]
Ah, rubber duck to sodbuster, come over. yeah, 10-4, sodbuster? lissen, you wanna put that micra-bus right behind that suicide jockey? yeah, he?s haulin? dynamite, and he needs all the help he c
T.

Well, we laid a strip for the jersey shore
And prepared to cross the line
I could see the bridge was lined with bears
But I didn?t have a dog-goned dime.
I says, pig pen, this here?s the rubber duck.
We just ain?t a-gonna pay no toll.
So we crashed the gate doing ninety-eight
I says let them truckers roll, 10-4.

[chorus]
?cause we got a mighty convoy
Rockin? through the night.
Yeah, we got a mighty convoy,
Ain?t she a beautiful sight?
Come on and join our convoy
Ain?t nothin? gonna get in our way.
We gonna roll this truckin? convoy
?cross the u-s-a.

Ford sells the most cause they are the cheapest and easiest to finance as ford credit will give anyone a chance..

But I do drive a lincoln as one of my vehicles. ;)

thats my first and last ford truck

2005 F-150 FX4. Fully loaded, sunroof, power everything, full leather, 4x4, 6 disc changer, 5.7 liter engine, subwoofer, cruise, 20" wheels, 32" tires, nerf bars, lift kit, all that bullshit. Got it for $9350 less than sticker price.

Its a nice truck but I like the build quality and ride of the chevy trucks better.

I forgot to mention that I've had my new Ford truck since July and I just now have 2500 miles on it.

Lace 01-07-2006 02:24 PM

My buddy has an 05 frontier...great little truck. and with the 265hp v6, it gets up and goes.

The Truth Hurts 01-07-2006 03:15 PM

I've got a black SuperCrew.
F-150 rules...

I can't even get in a regular car anymore witout freaking out.

Sparks 01-07-2006 03:46 PM

I've got 140,000 miles on my 1995 GMC Sierra 1500 and she's still running strong. Had to have some work on the brakes and a new alternator which cost $75. Other than that no problems at all. I'm a GMC man for life :)

It might help that my uncle owns a GMC dealership in Central Montana too :)

500 horsepower
525 lb-ft of torque
8.3-liter V10 Viper engine
Six-speed manual transmission with Hurst shifter
22-inch polished-aluminum wheels available

Martin3 01-07-2006 04:20 PM

If he wants a small truck the Tacoma is the way to go. Only problem is you get get a real fullsize for about the same price.

Don't let sticker prices fool you, most fully loaded(american) trucks have $7-10K of markup over invoice so there's plenty of room to deal. Foreign cars have alot less markup. Sticker may look lower, but final driveout price isn't that different on equally eqiuped trucks.

I use to sell cars. As mentioned above, ford sells more because of easy finance, and they sell a shitload of fleet. A 650 credit score and $1500/month income and you can get qualified for just about any Ford under $30k through Ford Motor Credit.

But Chevy to the way to go if you want a fullsize truck :thumbsup ..... only problem is the 03 and up have an ugly ass frontend :disgust

I have an 02 chevy 1500 and a 01 dodge 2500 cummins with over 170K miles on it, both never let me down.

Raven 01-07-2006 04:31 PM

Well, I swear men are worse than women when it comes to buying shit.....LOL..

At any rate, thanks, guys....

He bought himself a brand spankin' new 2006 Nissan Frontier....damn, that Titan is one huge ass truck...he's already got a 2005 Chevy Blazer SUV, so he didn't want anything so big, just to haul stuff to the dump....

But, because of you guys, I got to see the insides of some very nice trucks....

Some of them are downright luxurious....with heated seats and steering wheels...when did they stop being trucks and start being cars with a bed....

Peaches 01-07-2006 04:55 PM

If you're going to get a Ford, don't get anything smaller than the 250 diesel. If you want something smaller, the Titan or Tundra would be my choices. I've never had problems with Nissans or Toyotas but the two Fords I bought were POS.

I'm here but not going to the show - just playing :) Getting ready to get some catch up sleep before going out to dinner. Congrats on the new car - can't go wrong with a Nissan, IMO :) I plan on getting another Pathfinder when the warranty runs out on the Exploder.

pornguy 01-07-2006 05:04 PM

I have an F-150 as well, and would not trade it for any other truck. It has done great by me. I love it, and will one day replace it with another just like it.

iwantchixx 01-07-2006 10:36 PM

funny how those ford trucks go for a little over 6k around here when only 6-7 years old.

Go with the Titan if you want something big. That's one hell of a nice truck and will hold a good resale value.

For midsized go honda or toyota.

so every non-car with a slanted back on the cab is a chevy ripoff?

The two vehicles are miles apart. Crawl into one and find out for yourself.

http://www.f650pickups.com/i8.jpg

Otherwise ... just go for the F150 like i did :)

Be sure to got for a V8, 4x4, either Lariat or FX4 ... and opt in for the leather captains chairs ... Thats it.

Raven 01-09-2006 07:12 AM

He almost did go for the Titan. Personally, I think trucks are sexy bad asses....especially the big ones.

Titans, though, are just pure luxury on the inside...and, since we're not hauling horses, he simply didn't want to maneuver that truck in traffic..

Can't blame him..our town fathers had no foresight and allowed the developers in without contributing to the road infrastructure...so we have the worst congestion I've seen in a long time.....my community is now a bedroom community for Seattle, even though it's a two hour commute...and clogged?

He opted for the mid sized truck, mainly because it's not going to be a primary vehicle..he's actually going to haul shit in it. :)

Keep posting those pics, though. I get a vicarious thrill, seeing other people's vehicles!

sfera 01-09-2006 07:14 AM

get a toyota, i had one and was best truck ever had

GTS Mark 01-09-2006 07:15 AM

We just bought a 2006 Honda Ridgeline for our property management business. We love the truck and it fits our needs perfectly! We're always getting compliments on it and it has one of the best rides for a truck I have ever seen.

If you only need something for light duty/medium duty I would seriously recommend it. :)
