A remote code execution security issue has been identified in the Graphics Rendering Engine that could allow an attacker to remotely compromise your Windows-based system and gain control over it. You can help protect your computer by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.

More information for this update can be found at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=58471

Windows XP was made to be operated from remote locations. Even that patch won't stop determined hackers. But hey, thanks for bringing it to everyones attention. -Patching now.

I have mine on notify only, I'll be damned if I'm going to allow a third party access to autonomously install or update software on my machine. It's only a matter of time before someone cracks windowsupdate.com and sends out something nasty to millions of XP computers. Imagine the worldwide devastation that would cause. :2 cents:

(Then again, maybe the CIA has already asked Microsoft nicely if it can install some "special" updates on certain computers or regions...)

That wont happend, according to my contract with microsoft the only 3rd party software they are allowed to install is my spyware that logs logins to ebanking, paypal etc. So you can rest asurred that CIA wont put their nose into your system and find thouse 3 offshore bank accounts you recently installed E-banking for :thumbsup
Errhmm I ment I dont think microsoft would do that :winkwink:

I don't have mine on auto, because more than once I have gone to bed with 10 windows, 4 folders, and half finished projects in dreamweaver and photoshop all open, only to wake up, and find that the automatic update had updated then rebooted my system.

djroof 01-06-2006 06:41 AM
