registerfly dropped some of my domains
i'm not saything this is registerfly's fault. it might be that i had not funded my account enough... but 5 of my domains regged there went into redemption or got expired, and i only found out b/c i happened to notice the sites were down (i have a lot of sites).
weirdly the expiry date listed for these domains is for nov 2006, so apparently the domains were up for renewal in nov 2005 and if i didn't have the funds in the account, they got dropped registerfly doesn't seem to allow you to have your credit card directly hooked up to the renewal process, you always have to have funds in your registerfly account. problem is, if you look at my account, you'd THINK all the domains were live with expiry dates deep into '06, but in reality some of them got away. anybody else have this kind of trouble? any suggestions how to keep it from happening in the future? yrs, vi |
Move to a registrar that sends out email notifications.

As above. My registrar notifies me via email several times (starting at 60 days) before a domain expires.

what registrar do you recommend?
last year all everybody talked about here was how great registerfly was i had been using godaddy, but kept hearing horror stories about dns redirects, locking accounts, customer service nightmares. i need a registrar that won't shut me down if they get one little complaint or whwatever. a lot of registrars will get a c & d letter and will just basically flip the "off" switch on the domain. thanks -vi |
what a load of bs....im getting way too many emails when my domains expire from registerfly....i wish they could send less...i get about 20 emails per domain before it expires...

i use Godaddy.com

i get emails from them all the time too, but i also get all those "auto renewal complete" emails, and i always assumed the auto renewal was working.
the thing here is that the auto renewal feature appears to work when in fact it is not working. i spoke with someone at registerfly this morning who admitted that "it doesn't always work." i've got too much to worry about without worrying that my auto renewals aren't renewing. if you THINK your domains have been autorenewed, and if you even received an email stating that they got renewed, and if you even LOOK AT YOUR ACCOUNt and it says a future date for the expiry date, that doesn't mean that it has been renewed really. the only way to tell for sure is to go to the site, or to look at the DNS settings at registerfly. if the DNS settings are blank, you're fucked. -vi |
My registrar uses a third party biller so each renewal is paid for manually. It can be annoying but it does mean I'm directly participating in extending the life of some of my most important assets, and I'm fully aware of what's happening. Domains are something you should not set and forget IMHO!

I ran into some bullshit a few months ago where one of my pages ended up getting parked, I went onto registerfly and it said it was renewed, whois said it was registered for another year, contacted their help and the guy said ignore that and I had to renew.
