Dodge Challenger Concept Car: Back to the 70's! [PIC]

This thing is bad fucking ass!!
http://i.cnn.net/money/2006/01/04/Au...llenger.03.jpg

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - With an appearance that draws heavily from the classic muscle cars of the late 1960s and early '70s, the Dodge Challenger, premiering in concept car form at next week's Detroit Auto Show, should satisfy those who thought the 4-door Dodge Charger just didn't have the right stuff.

This time around, the number of doors stays true to the original spirit. Just two.

"The people who were complaining about the Charger, if they complain about the Challenger there's something wrong with them," said David Zatz who runs the Web site Allpar.com, a site about Chrysler Group products.

How long before someone puts hoodpins on one?

Seems like every Challenger (and Chargers) I saw in the 70s always had chromed hoodpins.

Martin3 01-04-2006 05:48 PM

Yeah, from what I've heard it's planned for around '07-'08. Gonna compeat with the new camaro

Hemi just reffers to the hemispherical combustion chamber Chrysler started in the 50's. This configuration allows the intake and exhaust valves to be placed in a more optimal position compared to the more common "wedge" shaped combustion chambers.

So yes it is a true HEMI

Very true to the '70 Chall design

Spunky 01-05-2006 09:58 PM

I also used to own a 68 barracuda.Had a hatchback and a 340s..Mopar gave Chev a run for it's money back then.I have to agree with the Hemi comment in a way.Nowadays the new Hemi's seem so held back with the pollution shit it doesn't give out the performance like the originals did.Sure they are more upgraded but lacks the true power.Still wouldn't hesitate on getting the new Challenger though.

Young 01-05-2006 10:02 PM

They should have used the concept in the new Dukes of Hazard.

Mopar fans general reaction to the new Charger was thumbs down, myself included.. but i'm probably biased because i never cared much for the original Charger either

I would have to disagree with you here. 425 genuine horsepower is extremely generous. I'm confident that there will finally be a huge aftermarket coalition to service the new Mopar.

Chrysler's best move was the Daimler-Chrysler merger in 1998.

The chassis for the 300, Charger and Challenger are all based on the E-Class chassis. Mercedes E-Class that is.

So now you can be a European Import and Mopar guy all at the same time.

Booyah

I think I just found myself a new desktop wallpaper!!!

very nice concept car :thumbsup

EroticySteve 01-23-2006 05:12 PM

This car is actually exciting.

I'm not opposed to retro done right.

I think Chevy is having problems with the concept of retro.

The SSR and HHR are awful attempts at retro.

The SSR is just plain strange.

The HHR may as well have been a rebadged PT Cruiser. In fact they may sell more if it were.

Sweet looking car, stupid fucking idea.

Big Red Machine 01-23-2006 06:44 PM

That Hugger Orange color is only missing a 01 on the doors and a Rebel Flag on top. They should remake that Dukes of Hazard with this car.
