p2p using limewire to get type in traffic anyone?

I'm really well out of date on this or to be more accurate I am outta my depth , how is the P2P networks finding video files out there is it by the file name or do they also go the tags and keywords in the tags?

I could do with some advice on this and I'm seeing a load of traffic on what I'm doing, but I'm just playing here and it's kinda cool

Just_Dave 12-30-2005 12:11 PM

they rename the vids with keywords , and they use drm content

devnull 12-30-2005 12:11 PM

Define load of traffic? :helpme

Thanks, but there is more than that going on there for sure, some guys are auto renaming based on keyword search, but that sucks to me as you just get SHIT content as the consumer.

I heard that it is not just the name of the files tho it is more than that, or am i off track here? :Oh crap

Kazaa (fast track network) especially used to be big on meta-data, but even they are returning results based 95% on filename these days. P2P video Meta-data was a good idea, but it has become less important from a p2p marketing point of view.

I bought the pro version. All i can say is the audio files are ok
As for VIDS and working with DRM, i tought about it but i wonder about the amount of time spent versus the amount of traffic ?

I could work the same hours to drive a hole lot more traffic i'm pretty sure.
Plus, it's not a "gold mine" like internal AVS traffic for instance.
Of course, if you intend to work with dialers,installer/DRM shit well, i guess that it could work out fine :2 cents:
But that, i won't do.
It's fucking killing the net, this week i got 2 cousins and a friend that fuckin' left internet (i'm glad they did hehehe as i was always at their homes debugging shit)

There is plenty of money in it. But putting together the this can be a pain.

I have a domain with 0 type in. I started this with just images, and it is now at 30 to 50 type ins a day. I am trading just under 250 images. Not movies or anything.

Greg Gaskell, just do a search on GFY you'll come to one or two very useful threads with LOTS of info on p2p

I think DH announcement thread was one of them

Greg MissionD 12-30-2005 01:44 PM

Thanks for all the input, I'm looking for a few more answers here and a know that DH can send a load of P2P traffic, but before I invest in doing that i want to be hands on with all this and in a position to understand it and not just buy it, i have done that before and made the mistake of getting a hell load of traffic and not converting on it and i kinda call this now doing my due diligence.

So i'm not looking for commercial answers here.

spammers suckkkkkkkkkkk

Tom_PM 12-30-2005 01:51 PM

I just branded a short movie clip with a fresh domain about an hour ago. No downloads yet. I figured what the hell. There's a ton of things I have no experience with, so why not toss one out there. I put the domain name in the meta info, and named the file with a ton of relevant key phrases.

sure you can get some traffic from it, but the quality is about the worst you can get, 404 traffic looks like gold compared to this shit...
hardly worth the effort unless you get a few servers, and even then after taking into account costs of servers, it's just not wortwhile...

Interesting, i have some videos out there that just have the watermark on that are doing killer, but very targetted traffic is what i went for and it's working.

You are so right. I am so sick of people calling us spammers. We are making it harder for people to steal content and delivering them back to the web.

Anyone who bitches about that is probably more surfer than webmaster IMO.

GTS Mark 12-30-2005 02:13 PM

We have a very unique process on how we harness the P2P traffic, it's a little more in depth than throwing a movie up on your own dsl or cable connection and sharing it hehe.

Depending the way you market your files you can get really REALLY targetted traffic or very general traffic. The key is how to monetize the traffic and you really have to take the time to market to it. Just like how you market your sites to TGP and to mail, you have to find something that works with P2P.

We will very shortly be offering a P2P pay per click offering where you can buy niche traffic from us and pretty much any other high in demand traffic (IPOD, PSP, Mobile, Gambling etc...) from us in set amounts and at attractive pricing.

We will be rolling the pay per click system out in Vegas, I hope I didn't ruin the suprise ;)

I'd pay good money for those keywords and frequency reports. Those can be put to good use in non-p2p scenario

That is all I have to say about that...

I have 4 pcs at home and another 6 at a friend's place in England, them KVm swtiches drove us mad

first he ordered a KVM switch that came without cables, then he ordered cables which weren't for this particular switch so he had to order the right switch and so on and so fort, I think we delayed setting up the whole thing for 2 weeks because of them switches ;)

From memory, it is a little different (as far as gnutella2 is concerned anyway.. limewire / fasttrack is a closed protocol). Nodes and supernodes use query routing tables to impliment searching. Keywords from your media are taken, the trailing (3?) characters are trimmed off and if the remainder is still over a few characters long, it is added to a hash table.

When a node connects to a supernode, it will forward its hash table to the supernode. Searching for a files involves a node sending out a request to a supernode, the supernode will look in all the hash tables that have been sent to it, then send the query out to nodes that had matching keywords in the hash tables they submitted.

The key to getting heaps of people to download from you is obviously being a hash table slut and connecting to every supernode out there. (GWebcache and HostCache systems make this even easier.)
