How to run a VMware Virtual Machine off an iPod

I just typed this up for some friends.. figured i'd share.. i'm sure some of you know this already.

You can run a Virtual Machine (Windows, Linux, Solaris, etc) off an
iPod.. this would be useful if you prefer to use your own OS/Apps on a
computer that is not yours. Check this out...

What you will need:
Apple iPod (20gb+ Recommended)
Apple iPod USB cable
VMware Player software installed on any PC. (It's Free)
VMware Workstation 5.x (5.5 Recommended)

The VMware Workstation software is not free, but i'm sure some of you fellow geeks can find it.

Back to the objective - Lets put a VM on an iPod, then run that VM on
any PC.

1 - Install Workstation 5.x , then proceed to create a Virtual Machine
by inserting an OS cd into your workstation.
2 - After VM's OS is installed, configure as necessary (install
software, apps, pictures, documents, etc). Tweak this VM until you
feel it is a 'gold copy' of what you would like as a mobile PC.
3 - Install the VMware Player - http://www.vmware.com/products/player/
4 - Plug your iPod into your workstation with the iPod USB cable.
5 - Create a folder on the iPod's harddrive that will store your VM.
6 - Drill down into your My Documents and find the "My Virtual
Machines" folder, and copy the "gold copy" VM's folder contents into
your newly created folder on your iPod.
7 - Start the VMware Player and load the *.vmx file

You now have a mobile Virtual Machine.. bring your iPod and USB cable with you.. install the VMware player on the PC you are using, and run your own VM's!
